Question Overheating issue but the car isn't overheating????

Alright so this issue started happening randomly and I dont have a clue of what it can be. Basically I can be driving my 2007 335i and all of a sudden a Yellow temperature thermostat comes up saying to drive the car moderately that the car is over heating. I look at the temperature and its normal as always. 210 to 230. It even did it when I started the car up and the car wasnt even warmed up fully yet. Then after about a minute of the Yellow thermostat looking thing comes up the RED one comes on and shuts the car down meaning I cant give it gas or anything. So im forced to pull over and shut the car off for about 5 seconds and then the car is fine. No problem I can drive like normal. Anybody ever had this problem. I filled the coolant so its not that, No check engine light or anything. Any help would be great thanks!

The warning relates to coolant temperature.

The yellow warning relates to coolant temperature, and the temperature gauge is showing the oil temperature. Trust the warning and stop driving the car - get it to a qualified shop and get it fixed.

This +1

The 335i is also known for having problems with the radiator ends cracking and leaking due to them being plastic. Warm up the car and check it out for leaks. It may be a small leak and not be leaking while the car is cold, which would contribute to it being an intermittent problem.

Edit: could also be the thermostat reporting incorrect temps.
