Question Ordered vs. Off the Lot

Hey everyone,

I have been waiting for my ordered car for almost 3 months now. Its sucks. I was just curious to know how many fellow board members ordered their new car versus buying one off the lot????

I was all set to order my car and then BMW came out with the March price increases. That pretty much meant not getting a sport package or not getting the car. I simply couldn't get what I wanted with the price increase.

I had a dealer check around and he found one car on the other side of the state that had just about everything I wanted. We struck a deal and he shipped it up. I voted "off the lot" but maybe it's more of an order off another lot.

I got over $3K off MSRP and ordered the car.... IDK if that helps anyone making a decision.

However the theory still stands you have more play in the price if its been on the lot over 90 days.

You're missing the European Delivery option

Unless you're in a hurry (for whatever reason)... preferably ED (save even more with ED Invoice pricing) or Ordering it.

I'm vary of dealer lot cars no matter what the make... because you run risk of the car being abused in test drives, and possibly being exposed to the elements a lot longer.

The answers to this are going to be very biased. I'd say most people who are looking in the New & Preowned BMW Ordering / Pricing / Tracking Information Forum (including European Delivery) are people who ordered or are going to order a new car.

I ordered my car with basically no options (ZSP, L7) and was OTD for $44k. Can't beat that...

1 negotiate the price of the car optioned exactly how you want it.

Personally I like ordering because as others have said no one as test driven it, aside from the hands involved in the shipping process. I get utility from that, not everyone is going to care.

Good point. I also think BMW models tend to have a lot more personalized options thus it is hard for consumers to find the car on the lots. Look at Lexus and Infiniti. Their options are mostly package options. That is why their cars are cheaper too.

Went into the dealer with specific options in mind. Ended up buying one that had some extra options than I originally wanted, but it was already on the ship, arriving in a couple of days, so I bought that one as opposed to waiting a couple of months.
