Unexpected snow..

It's disgusting outside tonight, I thought we were over with snow already..

On top of that my xi really surprised me a lot tonight. It's my 3rd winter with this car, and it never felt so unsafe before. I'm always very confident with this car on snow, but this time it was very difficult to keep the car straight. Then, going downhill I lost control of the car (without even braking) and span badly in the middle of the road.. luckily there was no cars around or it would have been a bad accident.

Time to replace my 2 winters old Blizzaks maybe?? They still have tons of thread left, I don't understand what caused this.. Although it is good to see the traction light pop up once in a while, my car feels worse this year in snow compared to previous 2 years

Yea man..the snow was bad...just made a trip from downsview to Burlington.

I wasn't worried though, the car felt planted and had no issues (running all seasons). Just had to be easy with pressing the gas pedal so you don't get too much torque on the wheels.

It was scary driving alongside with other cars, was scared they would spin out.

You should still be fine with your winters..The problem was that it was raining and then freezing rain. On top of that the temperature wasn't too cold making the snow turn into ice.

In the end you are left with icy road and wet snow.

Yeah I hope this was temporary. I'm using 18" staggered snow setup, so not the best for snow traction but I still do fine most of the time, except tonight.. I hope no one here had a problem because I saw many cars getting towed on 401 and other roads..

Yea...the 401 was bad...so many cars got into accidents. Saw one where they collided in the middle of the highway. Not the best day to be driving thats for sure.

I drive on 16's which I think help cut through the slush better.

Bad decision

I don't drive the car in the winter when there's snow and it's mostly garaged(have a winter beater), but I took it out earlier today to Vaughan mills and I just got home at 3 (Toronto) Car has summer tires and it got me home with very carefully driving but I got stuck 500m and 2m from my place. Roads were ice rinks in my neighborhood took me an hour to get unstuck.
The DSC seems to work well in these cars but I don't think I'll ever attempt to drive with my current tires in such conditions xi or not.

Can't wait till spring..

That's true, had to drive from Mississauga to Waterloo last night and watched the rain turn into snow and temperature drop from +4 to -2. Was happy that I was past Cambridge when it dropped bellow 0. Was not fun driving the last few kilometers with the black ice covered by snow. I also have winters but they were not very useful. Just drive slow or better yet, don't drive if you can

Yes, my xdrive was losing control, too, entering 16th to 404 - it has quite descent tires, dunlop sp winter 3d. I could only speed up to 80km/h on the highway, as other cars did, - but still a fire truck was running fast . On steels, a van beside me couldn't start properly with spinning wheels, and a civic was swirling to stop. I could see the driver was kinda shocked, because he didn't start at his turn signal, until he heard honking. I am sure my car was controlling better than others, but I realized again, whatever car it is, it can not gain traction which is not there. If it is over, it just slides. Because of rain, all the salt was washed out and snow created a layer over rain. Drive safe everyone whatever you drive~~

Drove last night in a Mini Cooper S Convertible with all-seasons (loaner from dealer) and the short wheelbase gets thrown around in the snow really easily. Don't know how I didn't spin out sometimes, but it was quite the uneasy drive.

"performance" and "winter tires" shouldnt be put in the same sentence.

squirmish handling has almost become expected with a lot of snowfall and the e9x's with so called winter tires.

imho, the vast majority of winter tires available for our cars are only good for a cold sunny dry winters day.

Had no problems driving my RWD Vert on Blizzacks in the mids of Sat night snow storm. It felt solid. So far have been very impressed how well it handles in the snow on good winter tires with traction control. Personally I find it handles better than my wifes FWD Mazda Protege 5 with winters.

I remember last year I swapped over to my summers the 3rd weekend of March and I don't recall seeing snow after that. Mind you last year was a really good winter.

Hopefully it warms up. Itching to put the summers on and start the golf season

Still should be snowing well into next week.

I was in southern illinois for most of winter and I think I saw snow twice, and a couple hours later it was gone haha, wish we could get that kind of weather up here.

Funny, but it was 80 degrees today and I golfed. I'm in Boca Raton this week though

No not exaggerating, I was referring to 3 nights ago. It was most likely caused due to icy road conditions, like most guys explained here. I was just very surprised that I lost control of my car and started spinning..
