Wind deflector blowing over
Recent e93 owner (07--pre-owned).
Love the car. Have a wind deflector that I have used a couple of times. I works great except.... I think it blows over a lot. I've searched the forum and this doesn't seem to be a major problem. What I'd like to know is, Perhaps I have unrealistic expectations. Should it not be able to handle highway (over 60 mph) speeds? Are windy days a problem? If so, how windy? Or do I just have a clunker of a part? Thank you. |

Check to make sure that it clicks in tightly in the upright position. It took me several tries initially to make it work click in properly by the latch. Once it's secure, it should not flop over. I have driven over 80mph with no problems.

There is an audible click. I have attached pics of the latch mechanism before and after. The rod should go fairly through the hole and you hear a click. If you don't, then you need to keep working it. It's easiest to put the deflector together before putting into the back seat.

Just tried it out again and....
Success!! I believe the latch not being clicked in well was the culprit. Took it up and down the freeway for about 5 miles, getting to about 80-85 mph (a jog that before would cause it to snap down). No issues this time. Also, I found some written instructions with words (instead of illustrations alone as seen on the cardboard placard that accompanies the deflector in it's case) in the owners manual that helped. Step 1 (as it relates to the latch) I think was the key. The photos above were great too. Thank you E93TX. |

No problem. That's what this forum is for. I'm glad you got it working as the wind deflector is quite useful. Enjoy.

I got the wind defector and tried it out this weekend. It is great as long as it stays up. I have checked and made sure that the latch mechanism is engaged as shown in the picture above and I hear the click. But it just seems that going about 40 mph, the top will be blown over. For those without problem with the higher speed, is it because you are driving it with the windows up? When you try to fold it down, how much force do you need to apply before it folds down? For mine, it doesn't seem to need much force to fold it down, and that is probably why mine gets blown over at around 40mph. Is there other tips or do I need to have it replaced? Thanks.

Mine needs a fair amount of force to put down and I've routinely used it on the highway (75-80mph) with the windows down and it stays up without issue.
