Changing exterior color
I just purchased a 2007 CPO 335xi in platinum bronze about 2 weeks ago and for the most part, I absolutely love it. My preference was to get the car in black, white, or graphite, but I couldn't find the 335xi (the only model I was interested in) in my local area at the time I needed to purchase my car. I was pressed for time because I was returning my old lease that week and needed to make the purchase so that I had a vehicle to drive to and from work. I didn't really dislike the platinum bronze color, but I certainly didn't love it. I test drove the car at night, and at night the car looks much more silver/metallicky than gold so that kind of threw me off. Because the vehicle had everything else I needed and the price was right, I convinced myself that the color would grow on me. However, the color hasn't grown on me one bit. Rather, every time I see any other color 335 on the road, I grow ripe with envy.
Am I right in saying that my only real option would be to shell out $3000+ on a paint job? I wouldn't want get a shitty paint job (ie. maaco) on such a beautiful car -- is $3-5k what I'll probably be looking at for a high quality job? If thats the case, I think I'll have to just hope over time I somehow develop a liking for this color... |

You're going to be paying AT LEAST that for a decent paint job, especially if you're going to be going with a complete change, in which you would have to pull the engine, ect.

Don't count platinum bronze out yet, I'd save your money and invest in mods.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...latinum+bronze I know it's all about personal taste, but I think pb is a unique and stunning color.

That's a bummer bro. I was tempted by better deals than my car when i bought it in january, but i knew i wasn't going to be happy with anything but black. I hope you figure out a solution that makes you happy.

^^^Oops, I was looking through your other thread and I saw somebody had already posted Darin's 335. . but the point is still valid, I think you'll really grow to appreciate that color more if you begin to mod it.
Or you could shell out a couple of g for somebody to vinyl it for you and you could be just another aw 335i's on the forum.

A true pro paint job would cost considerably more than $3,000 and would be orders of magnitude superior to the factory spray job. I've considered getting it done but am resigned to the fact that I'm not willing to pay the 10k~15k it would cost. Just a re-spray of my front bumper, hood, and side mirrors will cost me $2,000.

^ your getting screwed on pricing. At most, shops here would charge $850~ for hood, bumper and mirrors, between multiple shops.
I know I got my front painted for $275 another shop was $300. Mirrors was $50 for black. Hood can't be $1500~

A proper paint job that requires a different color will be in the $10k to $15k range.
It requires fully stripping the interior, the angine bay and removing all glass and moldings. Like mentioned before, the respray will also affect the value of the car. A few minor mods might make the car look more distinctive. |

after seeing this thread I tried to find a nice looking platinum bronze car to encourage you to keep the color but no such luck...

Funny, just saw a pb today with an aero lip and wheels (pretty rare, I drive 8-10 miles/day) and thought it looked fantastic.
Too many montego/AW/BSM cars out there. I think the rarer colors with some tasteful mods look perfect. |
