better overheating solution: intercooler vs oil cooler?

With daily driving, oil temps average 230. On the track (not dragstrip), oil temps climb up to 280-290. As above, which would be a better upgrade, as far as avoiding limp modes, heat soak, and overall wear and tear to the n54?

They do different stuff and both are necessary. Maybe you can forget about the fmic but need a meth kit.

Consider the BMW Perf kit -- that provides a lot more H2O cooling.

280-290 is really high. When i drove for like 3 hours straight averaging almost 100 all the way up and short bursts of higher speeds

Well if you dont have the factory oil cooler then....GET ONE lol but seriously tracking a car without an oil cooler is asking for trouble. If you have the oem oil cooler than get a new fmic......and eventually get a 2nd oil cooler if you track yoir car often.

If u have factory oil cooler get the cp-e intercooler. Comes with additional oil cooler. Great product

Fmic and oil cooler have different roles. Oil cooler obviously cools down oil
the Fmic cools down intake air. The Fmic will not help bringing those oil temps down, and the oil cooler will not prevent heat soak.
Get both

Thanks for all the input.. Sounds like I need both. Looks like cp-e has the fmic-oc combo. How much labor is involved installing this upgrade? Btw, i have the oem oil cooler.
