Plan on getting an exhaust-will warranty be voided???

Hey guys,

I plan on getting an exhaust fairly soon for my '11 e92. A friend of mine has this on his car and its very nice.

When I bought the car last year, I paid for the extended warranty.

If I get the exhaust, will it JUST void the warranty for things exhaust related?

OR

Does BMW lump the warranty all as one, and will they void the ENTIRE warranty?

My last car was a nissan maxima, and I fixed it up very heavily. I voided diff parts of the warranty along the way so I was wondering if BMW was the same.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

^^ kind of. If something fails that can be directly linked to your exhaust, then it is void.

Listen I know the sticky talks about how they have to prove that a mod is reaponsible for the damage, well thats bullsh*t. BMW has been trying to save money and theyve been voiding warraties like crazy, if your turbo blows, bmw will say that its due to the drop in backpressure. Even though we all know thats bullshit, they have some of the best lawyers out there so....good luck winning in court. The only thing I would suggest to you is to ask your SA if they mind, if they do then learn how to install and unistall it yourself and swap it out before service. Also if youre worried about your warranty, you might want to check out the bmw performance exhaust.

I have aftermarket exhaust, no warranty issues. Most issues I've had were related to HPFP/turbo actuators, which have been replaced.

When in doubt, if you have an issue with your car, ask your SA. It seems most BMW dealers/SA respond differently.

Albert, just request my SA and Tech at the dealership I go to (PM me) and you'll have no issues.

In fact, I don't even take my tune or any other mod out.

A simple cat-back or axle-back won't void the warranty, as long as you haven't touched the OEM cats. My car passed the CPO inspection with an axle-back and aFe intake with no problems.

Anything performance mod voids your warranty! Dealers let it slide until something big happens like blowing a turbo, theyll blame it on bacmpressure and theyve got thr best lawyers so good luck

My dealer said anything past the secondary cats is okay. Pretty much mufflers only for sound preference.

id keep the OEM components to swap back if there is a problem that the dealer states is related to the exhaust system replacement.

restoring the car to its original condition will save you a lot of hassles if its stated that the "exhaust" is the problem.

cheers!!

Exhaust is fine as long has you are running cats, dealers shouldn't hassle you, however it's a dealer to dealer type of thing..
