Cell phone solution in E90. Any suggestions/ideas?

Mounting cell phone inside the car is one of the toughest subject in my opinion.

I use the cell alot in the car, and due to my cell phone ring being
so quieter than other phones and my habit of listening to music
pretty loud, I tend to miss calls alot.

I don't want to mount an ugly cell phone holder everywhere.
I was wondering what kind of ideas you guys have?

I was thinking of getting magnetic cell phone holder which looks
real clean if you install them good enough.. but i don't know.

Doesn't it ring through the car's speakers? I haven't missed a call in my car as the radio/sat/ mp3 would mute and the system rings.

Yeah ditch your current phone and get a Bluetooth phone. I bought a Motorola V635 off eBay and I love it. Works great with my 330i and it rings through the car speakers. With Bluetooth, you don't even have to take the phone out of your pocket!

yeah, I would love to use bluetooth technology in our E90, (and I do have
bluetooth phone right now. SonyEricsson V6...something. I forgot. lol)
but don't you have to buy one of those "mount" thingy from BMW to
make your phone work?

Not at all, just pair the phone up with your car and you are golden. I usually set my phone in the little storage triangle below the shifter, or if I forget, it stays in my pocket. Either way it works! All the mount does I think is add a charger and a cradle to rest your phone. No biggie.

Bluetooth integration. Then you can have your phone anywhere - on your belt, in your laptop bag, etc. Your phonebook will be available from steering wheel, as well as voice commands. When an call comes in, it mutes the audio and rings through.

Check the BMW compatibility list for your service carrier. I have Verizon and the Motorola V710 and it works great.

If you don't have the Premium Package however, you don't have the bluetooth... you then have the same choices as people driving a Dodge Neon.

I have ZPP, but I don't have Navi/i-drive. that shouldn't matter though right?

I just don't like the idea that you have to buy the Phone Docking Cradle,
which is over $100. And isn't docking cradle specific for each phone?
What if I change my phone later? I can't use the docking cradle anymore huh?

Is there anyway I can use bluetooth wireless technology without having
the phone docking cradle? somehow hook up the phone and the car's bluetooth technology?

Not sure why you would need the cradle. Yes they are specific for each mobile but why not just skip it?

Cradle is good if you want to always keep your phone charged and get better reception with the shark fin. Otherwise, the phone can be in your pocket but remember, bluetooth DOES drain the phone battery.

I have Razr and nav/bluetooth and it's been working flawless. Phone is always in my pocket!

Not sure what ZPP is... but I'll assume it's Zee Premium Package...
In that case, you're golden. You do not need the docking cradle. It allows the phone to charge (not always a good thing anyway cause you'll fry the battery) and may boost your signal a little, but that's all. Once you have a compatible BT phone, you just "pair" it to the vehicle (the manual covers this pretty well, and your CA should also be able to assist). I don't want the cradle for the same reasons you mentioned above. I keep a charger in the glove box, just in case my battery gets low so I can plug in the phone to charge while driving - but that's it. I usually keep the phone on my hip and it's fine. BT is actually so good that if my phone is in the kitchen and the car is in the garage it will pick it up.

Go here: http://www.bmwusa.com/Vehicles/3/200...ail.htm?id=134

then click the link for Bluetooth microsite. It will give you lots of info and show you what phones are compatible. I ordered my V710 before my car came in, because I wanted it immediately!

Thank you so much for great info. You guys make this site great.
Sorry about the phone docking confusion. I thought you have to have
the phone docking cradle to use bluetooth. (Now I think about it, I guess
that defeats the whole purpose of "wireless bluetooth". )

I am getting Razr phone also, good to hear it works well.

Hint.

For even better reception, have your right arm extended horizontally when on a call for left hand drive cars and left hand extended for RH drive cars. Just pull your car over and park it for safety first. And be careful of your front seat pasenger's face when extending your arm.

Works for me!!!!

Now, aren't we glad that there are no centre monted steering wheels?

Now I'm really confused. Bluetooth is not standard right? What do I need to order with my car if I want the ability to use my treo650 via bluetooth (ie, car speakers). Do i need premium, BMW assist, or neither?

thanks.
