New (02/18) Autotuning Firmware for the JB4

Shiv, Clap, etc. Do not post in this thread. If you disagree with something someone says post a new thread. This is a thread for JB4 customers to discuss new firmware. I don't want this to spiral out of control like the other thread.

Shiv, I have the curtesy not to post in ANY of the threads you start and market the JB4, I ask for the same curtesy. I am sure you are a stand up guy and will respect this, as I know the e90post admins have asked you to respect this!

----------------------------

The Autotuning is progressing nicely and all the logs that have been provided have been great!! Thanks guys. This is an incremental upgrade from the previous firmware but worth updating to.

Quote:
Summary of changes:

2/18 alpha firmware below.

1) Reshaped the map 5 curve slightly
2) Extended the range to allow autotuning to go as low as 11psi in cases of very low quality fuel
3) Richened the top end air/fuel ratio

2/2 alpha firmware below.

1) Made the CAN bogfix a little more aggressive.
2) Adjusted the map 5 algorithms to be more conservative in some areas and more aggressive in others.

2/1 alpha firmware below.

1) Set adaptive PID to default on. If for any reason you ever want to disable it you can do so by setting FutureUseD = 99.
2) Manual transmission only: Removed the old JB3 bogfix code and replaced it with a preliminary CAN based bogfix. Most manual users have reported no bog with bogfix off all together but set bogfix to 100 to enable and test the new CAN bogfix algorithm. Further refinements are coming soon.
3) Enabled map 5 with a basic adaptive/autolearning algorithm. Peak boost ranges between 12psi and 16psi based on historic knock sensor activity. Learning is enabled from 4700-6800rpm in 3rd and 4th gear. The algorithm is currently overly conservative and just implemented for data collection purposes. So don't get too excited. Yet.
4) Found and corrected a bug in the JB4 crystal oscillator failover system that could prevent the motor from running normally in the event of a crystal oscillator failure. This type of hardware failure is rare but it is important the code work properly if such a hardware failure ever does occur. From the users perspective the car would be stuck in map 0 with steering wheel controls inactive but otherwise running normally.

Software

Software and firmware are paired so you need both! You also need to have the JB3/4 USB cable to be able to update the JB4

So is there a potential that Map 5/autotuning could result in slightly lower performance than Map 1 since it adjusts to your mods, or would it always at least be at the level of Map 1 plus some?

You could easily wind up with less performance than map 1 on map 5 if your octane/mods/conditions call for it.

On this thought, I had a quick question. So Map 1 does not have autotuning, right? And Map 5 does?

So does that mean that if a customer were to want their car at a certain boost level, then they could force that by choosing the right map?

And then choose map 5 if they want autotuning?

Just curious. Let me know. Just trying to understand if that is how it works.

Right, maps 1, 2, and 7 have fixed boost targets and won't auto learn boost. Adaptive PID is enabled for all maps though. Map 5 is the only map that will autolearn boost and that is still under development early stages. Map 3 is for progressive meth and increases boost based on methanol flow that you setup in the JB4 interface.

I was testing the Autotuning Mike and I feel regular, I feel that after the 110mph car is hold a little. But this is beta as they say. Tomorrow I thought going to the dyno to test the Autotuning vs Map 1. I'll let you know.

are the autotuning data calculations deleted after every firmware update, or do they carry over?

i don't recall if it was you or terry stating something about a minute of WOT for it to adapt.

Right now it's reset to "level 6" (~13psi) every time you select map 5, but not erased when updating firmware, etc. If you keep it on map 5 then of course it keeps your setting.

Hi Mike,

Sorry for the newb question, I see that there was a 2/1 and 2/2 update before the 2/18 update. Does the 2/18 already include the previous updates or do I need to download those updates?

Thanks!

No each new update supersedes the previous and includes all their fixes/features.

Gonna try out Map5 with autotuning this weekend, do a few pulls and log em..

I am also gonna first log my Map2 with autoPID enabled and adapted and see the difference between the two.

Should be interesting to see on my specific car.

Took Datalogs the other night on Map 5 with the 2/1 Firmware and sent it to Terry. Definitely felt strong and pulled like hell! Even decided to run two of my boys that were with me. Did two runs each, 2nd gear 40 mph roll with an E46 M3 and Cadillac CTS-V and pulled away from both of them hard immediately from 2nd gear and on. Definitely put a smile on my face that night! LoL. Uploading the latest Firmware this weekend and will take Datalogs again and update.

Is there a certain sequence for it to auto learn or just switch it to map 5 and then get to 6800 on 3rd and 4th gear? Does it have to be back to back pulls? Sucks 4th gear at 6800 is at leat 130mph. Don't feel real great about that. Lol

From what Terry has noted on N54Tech, it will continually autotune from 4500rpms up in 3rd and 4th gear at WOT. If you put the pedal to the floor in 3rd or 4th above 4500rpms, it's autotuning. You don't need to do it in both gears.
