Forge DV's

I decided to try a set of Forge DV's on my 335i. A buddy of mine has a set of the old forge version that unscrews from the top where the nipple is at. He's selling them to me for $150. I found that forge sells a new version that is a cylindrical shape that unscrews from the bottom and the price is $300-330 that i'm finding. Is there any difference in performance between the two is it worth it to get the newer version or will the old ones work just as good? Thanks
