Alarm Installation/Activation Costs at Sterling

In case anyone is wondering, BMW of Sterling charges $655 + tax for parts and labor to install the alarm system (-10% for CCA members)!!!

For just activating the alarm they require one to 2.5 labor hours @ $118/hr to just program the thing, even though I mentioned it should only take a half hour based on other owners' feedback.

I will install the thing myself and allow the alarm to operate at neutered functionality and take my time searching for a more reasonable stealership in the meantime

Passport charges $425 + tax for parts and install.

I'd DIY it and then take it to the dealership for programming. PM FrankoQ, he DIY'd the alarm install and paid (I think) $100 for programming. Confirm/refer with him.

Ive seen those OEM e90 alarms at ebay for much less than you said

I believe about a hundred or so
.. with that and maybe a free reprogram you're set to do.

your DIY is getting cheaper by each post

I got it for $210 from
http://stores.ebay.com/Hunterdon-BMW...enameZL2QQtZkm

You might be able to get it cheaper from ebay.

Installation took about 1.5 hours with a couple of beer breaks.

Activation at Tischer in silver spring, MD took like 20 minutes but they charged for one hour.

So total cost: $310 + 2 sam adams.

BTW...
Some others have gone without software update.
In that case, audible arm/disarm is not available,
panic button, and something else do not work. But the clown nose does work. Read the DIY for more details.

Hope that helps.

$210 ain't too shabby. I found one on ebay for $99 the other day, but a few hours before the auction's end someone bid it up to $230. I wound up buying it for that price from Morristown instead, along with a short shiftknob and matching handbrake.

I'll see how much Fairfax, Arlington, VOB and Passport want for activation.

I wish someone would create diagnostic software for the E90 like Ross-Tech's VAG-COM does for VW/Audi. Would be great to activate and program any hidden or locked features.

I think I rather have Lojack than the passive alarm system... the current Lojack now has a warning feature if you car have been moved, and its a good selling feature too for our very exclusive high priced BMWs

I just dont know how much it cost, must be a bundle

Program Overview
The 2007 Do-It-Yourself (DIY) program allows NCC Members to work on their own automobiles under the supervision of a mechanic. The DIY is intended for maintenance and basic repairs that you can complete within a three-hour time period. There are usually several NCC members and technicians provided by the sponsor who can assist when an extra pair of hands or advice is needed and we are happy to show newcomers the joys of working on your own car. DIY participants are encouraged to contact the club DIY Coordinator before the event to help you plan ahead and decide what size job you can tackle, based on your skill level and tools. Most DIYs start at 8:00 AM and finish at 2:00 PM. Lunch will be provided by the Club.

Russel BMW

Hey, Russel wants to charge $739 to "install" the alarm. I thought they come factory pre-wired. What do they have to do for $700??

Sterling BMW quoted me almost $1000 for the siren and active shock sensor install...even though all the wiring is already there...they said that the difficult is in the placement of those two components.

Not sure if that's 100% the truth.

Hey Folks,
Tischer BMW has the OEM E90 Alarm for sale on their website for $230 w/ free shipping.

http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...&siteid=214672

I ordered mine this weekend.

FrankoQ did state that he had Tischer program the alarm after he installed it himself. They charged for one hours worth of work. Not bad. I plan on making an appointment with Tischer after I get my car and install the Alarm myself. I also plan on retrofitting the aftermarket shock sensor as well.

Sure. We can do it together.
I have a very nice jack , jack stands, and also a cordless impact gun to take off the wheel if we need to.
I got lots of tools and a two car garage to use if need be.

I'll let you know when I get my car and we can schedule something. I definitely want to put an alarm on my new baby as soon as I can.

Anybody else want to join?

Maybe we can have an alarm installation party.

I don't think that it is that difficult. Look it here:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ight=alarm+diy

You will need to have a dealership program the alarm but should only be an hours worth of service, if that.
