Frozen Grey M3
Well I went down to the local Albanian car wash this lunchtime and rather than watching them wash the car, I walked next door to the BMW dealer for some window shopping.
Inside a frozen grey (ie matt grey) M3. Sorry for the ordinary quality: iPhone. While we are on the subject of M3s, check out this guy's plate. I'm guessing the owner is not trying to remain incognito, so it's ok to post it. |

I saw a Frozen Grey M3 at the Piston Heads meet a few weeks back. Looked really cool but I dont what it's like to care for? I wanted to touch it to see if it felt textured but obviously it being someone's ride I couldn't.
I wonder if you just wash it. I mean, surely waxing it would just fuck up the finish? EDIT: That numberplate is really a douche-bag thing to do. I bet he really is a knob. |

I saw exactly the same Matt Grey E92 M3 the other day when i was in Sytner BMW Nottingham. It actually looks quite cool..almost like a vinyl wrap. But then again, it looks like primer..whichever way you look at it. I had a feel at the paintwork and it feels just like it looks..a bit rough like a matt vinyl.

I've saw the same wrapped cars (not THE EXACT) at 2 other dealers, I'd like to know if they are wrapped at the factory or what and what colour are they undearneath the wrap?

I've seen the same car before. I LOVED it. I don't think its a wrap - its a different kind of paint finish

Ah, I was sure it was wrapped, although the first one I saw come to think of it was matt black and deffo was wrapped as the salesman was talking about it with me and you could also feel it behind the door handles.

They had one in the dealer here a few months back. Chatting to the salesman he was saying how it comes with a whole lot of grief when it comes to looking after the paintwork. You can't polish it and must only use a special cleaner. Their body shop guy too one look at it and said that if it needed any work he wouldn't know where to start.
All in all, the sort of car you buy if money is no object and you plan to keep it garaged with a cover over it, except for sunny days. |

there is one on display outside at the ring (f1 entrance) well was there back in OCtober looked like it was out there for a while going by the rusted brakes however the paint condition was very good.
What ever they are using it seems to handle well to elements

In reality its just a different clear coat. Could make any colour matt by applying a matt clearcoat. Same Gun, Same prep. Primer and Base are all the same as spraying normal paint. |

There are dedicated polished for silk finish paints, have been for some time.
But you want to read the BMW disclaimer about longevity of the finish... shocking.
