Carwash

My new 335i sedan is already dirty from all the snow and slush on the road. Where do you folks get your cars washed? I know I should be washing it myself, but since I live in a condo and feeling lazy to take it somewhere for washing it myself, I'd like to take it to a place that folks here find safe for metallic paint.

Cheers!

The only place i've ever taken one of my cars to is AutoBell, and once the soap suds (cleaners) place, just because it's touchless and I dont have to let some kid get behind the wheel. Neither of those options will get down to the nitty gritty though. I've never been to a car wash that got rid of that fine layer of film. I understand your bind though, winter bites.

BMW clear coat polymers are not very thick. Please be aware that heavily conditioned water (like that of carwashes) may swirl your paint even if the carwash is 'touchless.'

My car may be a bit dirty from the run Saturday, but it'll get handwashed this weekend. Temps should climb enough to break out the hose and buckets.

I dont know why BMW dealership cant offer free carwashes. I know MBenz of Alexandria offers it to Benz owners, just to have them come it and maybe generate some goodwill and a couple of dollars in Parts revenue while you wait.

I go to the touchless/brushless at the Sunoco in Merrifield. Between the zaino on and the 2 inches layer of winter grime, I figure the harsher detergents used in the touchless wash won't come close to harming the paint/finish (or even the zaino) in any way. So far so good...

When the weather is warmer, I'll revert to my routine of driving to shimshimhada's place for his maintenance hand washes. I recommend this service PM Shimshimhada for zaino appointments starting next month, hurry timeslots are filling up fast.

I think all BMW dealerships offer free washes.

I think if you showed up and wanted to run your car through the wash, they wouldnt put up a fight.

I take mine to Details, Details, Details in Rockville,MD. They only do hand washing. I believe exterior wash and basic interior cleaning is $25. Probably need to call ahead and make an appointment. Will take an hour or so. Very good guys and they will take care of your car. Only hand wash your car or touchless if you can.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this weekend will be warm enough for a hand wash. I can't stand going to the touchless gas station wash, which I've been doing this winter to get the salt off the car.

Looking forward to getting the 162s back on, getting a new Zaino job, and no more salt and gunk on the roads.

its quite out of your way Donny, its on FFRFAX Pkway after Rolling Road next exit on Gambril road. exxon station.

I was watching this blaster kicked in when the car ahead of me move up the wash rack I said to myself ALRIGHTTT!!!!!

When I was next, I started to move to the wash rack, I drove slowly so that this blaster can really take its time doing its job...(smart huh?) as I moved further and further, I waited and waited until I realized my car was completely inside and I didn't see nor hear this side blaster kick on.

then I realized I was a cheapskate when I looked at my receipt it said "ECONOMY"

$5 reg $7 with side/wheel area blaster, so when I went back the same night for the Cab... I splurge a little and went deluxe when I have to consider its anyway an ///M.
quite happy to have it blower dry too a 59min special, where I also took my time, even reverse it back when I saw I still have 2o secs. a real cheapskate

I'd also take my time creeping in to maximize the initial undercarriage and side blasters time.

The Sunoco at Merrifield (where I regularly go now). I always opt for the $10 blue plate special super deluxe wash with Rain-x clearcoat. Nothing's too good for my Ralfie

Btw Ralf's still at the dealership getting recoded/software upgrade (and other small warranty repairs). I got a Subaru Impreza 2.5i for the night, pretty entertaining little thing, grips well in this evening's rainy weather. Not bad, might consider for my civic's replacement, been having fun all day with it.

Well they're too far and I didn't gel with my assigned SA. I take Ralfie to VOB now on a referral. I can live without a BMW loaner/rental just as long as they treat me right. Besides its fun to try something different every now and then...

When's the next time you're getting a 328i loaner/rental. Let me know, I may want to see which parts to trade

You keep the gas...I get dibs on the tires (if they're in better condition than my Turanzas). How fast can you do an engine swap? ... wait its just the intake right? easy stuff
