hi,

I just purchased a 335xi w/ sport pkg, but since the xi does not have the sport suspension im guessing it will not matter.

i've looked around the site but thought i'd ask the pro's what 17inch rim will fit the 335xi.

I'll need a set very soon, so any recomendations and or shops you deal with would be great!

i recommend getting 16inch rims, and any 5x120 bolt pattern rims should fit on your car. ohhh i forgot to add check around the classified section you can probably find a set for a good price.

16-inch rims won't fit a 335i. OP, check out tirerack.com or Simply Tire (Toronto). I've had fantastic experiences with both.

225/45/17 will fit perfectly if you are using non staggered 8~8.5 width.

would you recommend them on your car??..lol...like mentioned..they won't clear 335 calipers....17s are min size you can run....

use your stock 17s for winter rims....get aftermarket 18s... or 19s would be better for summer.....

I have 225/45-17 Sport Edition 5-spoke rims from Tirerack with my winter tires (Hakkapeliitta R). They qre tirerack's house brand, made in China,cheap ($125 each) but durable and pretty light. I highly recommend them.

And yes, 16 inches will not clear the brakes on a 335.

If in doubt, find Gary@Tirerack's email on the wheel and tire forum. He is a long-time BMW guy and can answer almost any wheel and tire question.

Thanks for the replies. I've actually got the 18inch style 162 staggered on the car now

I've gotten quotes for replica 17inch 162 for $650 for the set and $535 for Barum polaris PO2 tires locally in the gta....205/50/17 or 225/45/17 are the same price

Anyone heard of barum?

Another idea I was thinking about is to order 18 inch winters and mount them on the stock rims and then look for a set of 19's for summer

Did your 335xi come with 18"s? I thought xi's come with 17" or is that on diesel xi models only? Can't remember.

The xi does have sport suspension on the sport package, it's just not the same as the i version due to clearance/ride height. Sounds like you didn't get the optiona 18" sport wheels?

I run the stock staggered 18" sports (189) for my winter setup, both with 225 width winter performance rubber. I run 19" wheels in the summer.

There is a price difference of about $300 between 225/45/17 vs 205/50/17. The 205 being cheaper. So wider or narrower

At the stage of the season you might be able to get away without getting Winters, I got my 330i last Feb and ended skipping driving the car for a day or two otherwise I was good and got my winter set later.
Keep in mind good deals might come up on Kijiji or CL otherwise best time to buy is next Oct/Nov when you can take advantage of OEM's marketing promos.

Theoretically, narrow tires are better in snow because they can cut out a groove better.

No consensus about on-ice performance (narrower vs wider).

Anyway, the difference in width between 225 and 205 is probably negligible. You might as well save a few bucks....

I have this exact setup on my 2007 335xi and it is awesome. Unfortunately I hit a pothole on the 401 recently and had to replace 4 rims and 2 tires. Went with the same as I love the look and handling. Dave @ steelcasetires hooked me up - great guy and service (he ordered the rims thru tirerack).

17 inch is ideal. I went with 18's simply because of my big brakes.
