First Performance Mod

Hey guys im on the fence about buying a performance chip for my 335i. Im thinking of going with the JB+ kit which gives you a max of 40hp. Im not goin with JB3 or 4 cause I dont plan on doing anything too crazy with my car, just a mild horsepower increase. Does anyone have any cons about performance software besides risking warranty?(i.e. engine problems, ect) Is there a big difference in driver feeling in regards to acceleration? all opinions welcome.

The JB+ is ok, I've been using it for two years now and haven't had a single problem. No check engine/reduced power lights. As a suggestion check out the cobb accesport, there's plenty of info in the performance section.

I have run JB3 for over 30k miles with no problems. All out of warranty though.

If you want a tune and are concerned about your engine warranty you should look at the procede v5, far more safety features to protect your motor.

Have you looked at the Cobb AP, search the performance section for more info.

There really isnt much bad press on the negative side of the tuner chips / flashes.
there has been one or two that have damaged their engine from each camp and they have all had some serious mods supporting the tune.
If your just wanting a little more oomph then any will do.
Pros would be better throttle response, more power and just generally wakes up the car a little bit.
Historically (at least here and a few other forums) the mods are safe, reliable and easy to install and remove while leaving no trace of being there for service. Note you will need a bt cable if you want 100% insurance for clearing any codes before service.
If your not in to the JB3/4 than the Procede 4/5 is the same situation. Try the JB+ or Giac. If money isnt an issue then the Dinan Stage 1 is for you. not as much power etc.. but warranty intact and much more power than the JB+ but less than the JB3/4 or Procede 4/5 which will put a red flag on your car that can be seen from Germany on a clear day if you don't remove it before service.
Just my 2c

if your going to buy a JB+, might as well pitch in the little extra for a JB3/4.

That way you can defraud BMW and not get caught.

Let's wait for your warranty to expire so that every future NEW car buyer isn't subsidizing yet another unscupulous lowlife.

I'd personally do the Juice Box 4, it's the newest version of the famous JB3 setup and offers tuning via USB cable. The JB4 has multiple maps to grow with the car as you add mods and is the standard for ready to go tunes.

Before I offer any advice what other mods do you see yourself getting in the next year or two?

Im curious about the JB+ as well. I don't plan on doing any other engine mods other than that. Just want a little extra hp. Does the JB+ do anything to timing and fuel? or does it just up the boost. I don't really need the features of the JB3/4 because i won't be using them. Is the BT cable necessary?

I think the JB+ is excellent values for money. One of the best product on the market by Burger for the N54 tuning in my humble opinion. It is easy to install and remove also if you like that.

if you want a car that will make @ 70whp over stock and be extremely safe doing it, i'd buy the $600 JB4 and double cone intake set-up. put it on Map 1 and leave it there for about a year.

that should keep you happy for a very long time. you'll be making @ 8-9 more psi than stock and the car will become a different beast during wide open throttle AND during daily driving.

it's clearly the cheapest and safest tune you can buy right now.

Sounds great, have you had any problems with that set-up??

not in the 3 hours that i've had it lol.

i installed them today and all the reviews that i have previously read from JB3/JB4's are spot on.

car is faster, runs smoother, sounds better and drives better than stock under normal driving conditions.

the first Map on the JB4 is pretty much perfect. runs about 12-13psi safely. car rolls out nicely but it doesn't act like a jackass.

i'm an old man with 2 kids - i drive my car to and from work and i rarely wide open throttle my cars. i at least would like to know that if i donkey stomped my car, the outcome would be very rewarding.
