E90 Short Film - Black on Black *NOW ONLINE*

Hi All,

I've just finished making a short experimental film for an MA project. It features my BMW E90 330i and is called 'Black on Black' - yeah I know the title sounds dodgy lol.

Will try and render a version for the internet and post it in the next couple of days so you can all see it...

Have you filmed it with a camera mounted in the car so you get scenery, exhaust note and a 'sense' of being the driver?

Yeah sort of Helen - but done in a creative way !!!

It's a bit long (13 mins) but there is a reason for all that - I won't bore u all with the research, justification and critique I've had to do.

Hopefully folks on here might find it of interest, I'll try and get version up soon - if you like it then cool, if not then turn it off

Paul, you're getting old lol.

Decent enough arse Butch Can tell it's done by a younger person 'cos of the music and layout but I thought it was good and held my interest which is half the battle? I remember that engine sound so well.

You weren't driving around Snaith way on were you? Am probably totally wrong eh!

I like it, didnt really want to see your arse and chest hair but hey I'm sure others will appreciate it and I'm also disappointed you missed the opportunity for a double-kill on the cyclists

Like I said it was good but being ultra critical it perhaps dragged on a little too long and it would have been nicer to hear more engine and less 'music', IMHO of course.

What camera did you use? I could do with something like that for skiing next week.

I've got no sound at work, but the video itself looks good. You picked a belting day for a drive - when was it?

I enjoyed that and thought it was especially well made.

I also liked the use of metaphors, the canal lock suggesting it handles like a barge and the thing that looked like a condom you put on your head to suggest safety?

I enjoyed it. Sort of sucked me in after a few mins, and was glad you made the overtake on the van...
Oh and the credits at the end on the head unit. Very clever.

LOL cheers Helen, and I'm 34 so that's good... in fact the guy who composed the music for me is about 50, but the target audience for the film was 25 - 40yr old males.

Location is between Doncaster and Goole, so not too far off !!!

Yeah thought about a double point hit, that second cyclist only appeared as I went round the bend. I did get some proper funny looks with cameras on the car !

This stuff is quite new to me so I'm still learning, but there are couple of over exposed shots, the scenes with me in were originally much longer but I cut most of it out and I agree they should have all come out ! I needed more footage to add to the split screen. And yeah, it's far too long - the route should have been half the distance !!!

Camera is HD Go Pro Motorsport - amazing little camera...

Thanks Paul, actually filmed last month... Was going to do it in Dec, but due to snow, ice and work I just couldn't do it. Most of January it was frozen, in fact 3 days before this was filmed, the canal was still frozen solid and roads were still icy in places. But the low sun gives it a nice colour and all that lens flare.

Yeah, I like the credits idea - turned out ok.

Thanks for all your comments guys, and thanks for taking time to watch it - not been online for 24hrs yet and it's already had over 70 plays...

N'owt but a bairn yet eh.

Eh, I wasn't too far off............similar terrain. I know my areas of South Yorks............mind you Snaith is East Yorks but a spit and a fart away from North Yorks and South Yorks.......bloody boundaries......you know what I mean lol.

Enjoyed that.

Love the noise of the engine, I've forgotten what a petrol sounds like! What does it rev to? It kind of reminded me of my old type-R, in a way.

The credits were clever at the end too.
