potholes to dodge or not?
i often read that when someone changes fron runflats to non runflats they stop dodging potholes. having more compliant tyres may soften the impact to the passengers but it is still doing substantial damage to the rims tyres and suspension settings. i constantly scan the road for any depressions/holes/craters but even so manage to hit the odd one, but to actually not worry about hitting them seems to be inviting trouble.

I try to avoid them as much as possible. However, sometimes it's simply not possible. For example, motorway, cruising at 70, in the dark/wet with traffic on both sides, what do you do? Not much you can do I suspect, except clench your butt-cheeks and grit your teeth!!!
Sometimes the sound they make when you do impact them is horrific. The loudest, most "bone-crunching" BANG and you're immediately left wondering what's just broken. Rim? Tyre? Suspension components? KDS will need doing that's for sure! That kind of thing. The roads are a fucking joke at the moment. |

I aim for them, because for years I tried avoiding them and always hit them.

I fear for my poor 313m's, the 30/35 sidewall albeit RF isn't much of a coushon, i'm all over the roads they are a complete JOKE....for the amount of money we pay on road tax.
drop links, springs, dampers, top shocky mounts, wheels, tyres, suspension arm bushes, all things that can be affected...I even notice my headlamps move on some of the bigger ones www.fixmystreet.co.uk is a good website to report them.

I don't thinkso, I've never saw anyone with any cracked 313's but not to say it doesn't happen.
I think it's only the 225m wheels that had the problems iirc.

It would be AWESOME (if possible) if EVERYONE stopped paying road tax for a few years, get it right up them! They'd probably ram petrol tax right up though to get it back up us I'm pig sick of the roads and there is not one single attempt that I have saw to repair them, literally every road I go down has at least one king size pot hole, we get our pants pulled down from all directions, this country is f*cked.

Private companies like the utility firms should also foot whole swathes of road being repaired when they dig up sections to upgrade or repair their stuff. Its them that constantly rip up roads, a little bit here and a little bit there that eventually fail first as they'be broken the continuity of the tarmac. We had one road near us completely resurfaced from one end to the other, they did a nice job and put new markings and high grip compound down. It took a few months of hardship and traffic jams but it was worth it when completed. Then within a month of it being done United Utilities ripped up one section to replace piping that was old and when they left the repair was shocking. Why councils don't hold these twats to book is another thing. I still avoid potholes despite moving from runflats, the M sport suspension is still stiff regardless but my major gripe is the fact the interior trim rattles and cracks when even a minor pothole is hit and this just makes me cringe. The actual bump absorption isn't that bad but the fact the interior can't handle it makes potholes the devil incarnet. |
