Office functions in Combox?

I picked up a BB Torch 9800 a few days ago and have not been able to get the Office functions to work on the Combox - no messages on the iDrive, nor emails, nor tasks, etc. Question is - what am I missing?

The BB Torch pairs with the bluetooth telephone system in the iDrive much like my previous E60 and all contacts synced. My ride is post Sept production and I could get Album art to be displayed with the MP3s played, my classic iPod connects with the standard Apple white USB cable and I have ProNav.

Just wondering if the Office functionability has anything to do with either a software upgrade or BMW services?

Would appreciate any help from fellow forummers who have successfully got Office to work with the BB Torch 9800 with the F10.

Have you gone into the Bluetooth option menu and make sure that the "Office" function is checked and enabled? You need to do the same for Bluetooth Audio function as well.

I've read somewhere that for some phones you need a software (driver) update of the Combox. This should be done with the USB connector.

Updates should be released here : http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/nav...gion=&country=

I do not now if this is the case for the BB Torch 9800 ...

A forum member, ghueser, was able to get his working and I wasn't. The difference, his car has navigation and I don't have one. There was a post discussing this. Do you have navigation on yours?

But I have got ProNav and post-Sept production Combox - I am able to use the Apple USB white cable and have Album Art ....

and I don't have the "Office" option as evidenced in this pic below...

Am I still missing something?

BestManWins,

It sounds like you have all the required hardware for this to work properly. (The Blackberry Torch does work with Office.) What I do not know however if there is some country specific issue at hand.

At the very least, you should see "Office" on your main Menu list....along with the other iotems such as Settings, Navigation, etc. If you don't see it listed, then I suspect it is a software related issue and you will need an update when it becomes available from BMW.

If you do see "Office", then good. Go down to "Telephone" on the main menu, enter it, then go down to "Bluetooth" and enter it. Highlight (with the red box), your "Blackberry 9800", then hit the options button on the i-Drive. (it looks like you sort of did this already, except with my car, the screen you just moved from in the picture is one level up.....)

Under options, you will hopefully see, "configure phone"..."remove phone from list"...."display owners manual"....then "bluetooth audio" and "office" that have boxes next to them for checkmarking. Make sure the Office is checkmarked.

Give it a try one more time and let us know if you have any luck. I tried to take some pictures of the screens I was talking about, but am having trouble transferring to my computer...as I am working from home today due to a winter blizzard! I keep looking at the picture you took and really wonder if you do have slightly different programming.

Hope this helps in some way.

ghuesser, I think you are correct, different country might slightly have different programming. In my case, I can find the "Office" option and I have it checked, and emails from my Blackberry Enterprise still doesn't show, but all my SMS shows. Now, I don't have Nav, that's the diff between mine and yours.
ghuesser, is your email from webmail such as gmail or hotmail, or from Exchange Server? Mine is from the Exchange Server, I'm not sure if that makes any different.

Ghueser,

Thanks for your help.

You could be right that this might be a country specific issue - either on the BB Torch or on the F10. I went into the "Options" page and do not see "Office" listed.
Name: IMG-20110204-00010.jpg
Views: 4583
Size: 73.2 KB

I am also guessing if this could be due to the BB Torch? - if I go into the Bluetooth MAP Options on the Torch - I do see that I have checked all the listed items like :

[checked] xxxxxxx@mailbox.com "-"
[checked] xxxxxxx@mailbox.com "-"
[checked] SMS/MMS "-"
------------------------------------
[checked] New message notifications "x" (in red)
------------------------------------
Message download timeout 30000

The "-" or "x" in a box are not configurable.

Checking on the Bluetooth Options, I do see that I have the following service profiles (all checked):

Headset
Handsfree
Serial Port Profile
Desktop Connectivity
Wireless Bypass
Data Transfer
SIM Access Profile
Dial-Up Networking
Audio Source
A/V Remote Control Target

Could you please help me check if you do have similar bluetooth setup on the Torch?

On a different note, while I do not see "Office" in the iDrive options page, I do see "Additional Telephone" which is not checked, wondering what does it do if checked??

Would appreciate any help here. Thanks

I've been looking at my BB, but cannot seem to find the profile that you are talking about. Option's or in Setup?

As far as the "Additional Telephone", I think this is a way to add Bluetooth for another phone in the car, but that you have to tell the car which phone you want it to communicate with. I looked at the on line manual on this and it does not seem to reference the exact same screen that you show. Maybe slightly different software.

Have you checked with your dealer to see if there might be a software update so you can get Office? You have the Pro Nav so would think this should not be a problem.

At least this is the way I found that...Go to "Manage Connections", select "Bluetooth Connections"...Open menu (hit the BB symbol next to the touch pad), you'll see "Switch Applications", "Disable Bluetooth" ..."MAP Options"...Select "MAP Options" and you'll find the "Message Access Options" which BestManWins described. I have my Exchange Email (xxxx.@xxxx.com and SMS/SMS there with "-" on the right hand side). I still need to try create regular webemail (non-exchange server and see if it works).

BetManWins, my SMS works, but not the email. Also I have the "Office" option in the iDrive.

Many thanks to ghueser and dtiger for all the pointers.

A lot of time and effort has been wasted to get this Office function on the iDrive in my ride to work. I even went to the extent of getting the local telco's BB technical experts to look into the BB bluetooth MAP profile on my Torch - the contention was that BMW's bluetooth compatibility website attested that it will work when I keyed in my VIN and software module.

I guess the hair that broke the camel's back was that the BMW website listed BB OS6.0.0.358 as the OS that would work. And again I wasted lots of time looking for OS6.0.0.358 for the Torch - and it doesn't even exist!! On BB OS download page for the Torch 9800, I looked into every country's OS upgrade versions and no telco in the world offers 358!! After getting no help from the local dealer, I decided to drop a stinker email to BMW AG.

The local dealer and their area rep got the sting (from AG) and a meeting was set up with 4 of their senior managers! It was then that they revealed that the Office function is country-specific. Acting upon my complaint, they have kickstart the process of testing the function on some test cars and will send these to the local transport authority for homologation.

The last I heard from them is that I would probably get the Office function sometime in June.

Cheers

I think this problem lies with your BB OS. Try upgrade the OS to latest official or leaked OS if you like. Most of the BB OS can be found on the internet like on crackberry.com

You may also find instructions there as well. Once you have done the OS upgrade, it should be working.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the heads up AbsoluteAuto.

No, its definitely NOT the BB OS. I have also paired a Sony mobilephone that is compatible and I still don't see the Office function in the iDrive.

The dealer had tested on their test cars and they have confirmed that "they can turn it on" via a sw upgrade on the F10. They had also tested the local version of BB OS6.0.0.284 and it worked.

Once the transport authority gives the green light, I would put my ride with the dealer to get this solved.

Cheers

I have a Blackberry Torch and to make office work I had to buy an application for Approx. $19. It has been working perfectly. It's called Bluetooth Calendar by Avanquest.

caribz, could you please tell me if you did see "Office" in the iDrive menu listing prior to buying the Bluetooth Calender App?

After "making office work", did you get to see emails and SMSes work?

Would appreciate your inputs. Cheers

I have a non nav equipped February build 535ix and have the calendar blackberry download working great along with my text messages. The post above was the first I have seen anywhere indicating by BMW that emails are specific only to nav equipped vehicles. As the brochures and BMW website do not make mention of this I have taken the matter to the dealer for compensation as I purchased the car with the clear expectation of the email functionality. Sucks when BMW lies to its customers about how great their technology is and then it isnt functional in most vehicles. Shame on BMW.

I agree, it took me forever to find out. The dealer claimed they didn't know anything about the feature before I made my purchase. I even went as further as email bmw support and never got any reply.

Sent my ride to the dealer's this morning to have the Office function installed - after about 3 hours, the much anticipated OFFICE is in my iDrive now!!!

My ride IS the first here to be installed with OFFICE

Yes, SMS and emails worked like a charm. Will be getting bluetooth calendar to make it "more complete"!

Cheers to all who have offered their help in one way or another.

I took delivery of a Space grey 2011 535i a couple of weeks ago. Had all sorts of issues getting BMW Assist and Office working with a Blackberry 9800.

First, it turns out that using the same email address to log on www.bmwusa.com and BMW Assist causes messages from BMW Assist to not work. I found this out while trying to get both test text messages from BMW Assist and Google Maps to work. Changed my BMW Assist email and got it working instantly.

Second, I did not have to load any software to get the Blackberry Torch to work. The hint I got was my wife's LG phone loaded contacts, messages and contacts when paired but my Blackberry would only pair as a telephone but not connect to the Office functions.

Had to go into "Manage Connections" and "Blue Tooth Connections". Then press "menu" hard key "Options" and set "Contact Transfer" to "ALL" then it worked.
