Steering wheel question...
Hello guys,
I just purchased Alpine White 328I with AT.. I saw these pedals on steering wheel as an option for 100 dollars before I got the car.. I want them now.. my dealer tells me that they don't sell them.. and if wanna get them, do i have to buy new steering wheel with pedals attached? or can i just buy pedals and attached them to my current steering wheel? And if i do buy the steering wheel with pedals attached, will it work with my AT when i use tip tronic? or do i have to wire something? or is it plug and play type of situation? Thanks |

ummm honestly don't know for sure but i do know you can only order it on the 335 online and in the official 3 series brochure!!! there is no option for paddle shifters for any 328i i am sure it is strictly for the 335i!!!! good luck though oh and why didn't you get the 335i it is a lousy 5k more!!! if it was so simple i think it would be!! i don't know why they wouldn't have it on the 328 unless it is just another reason to step it up to increase 335i sales....good luck but i think it is not available at least not yet!!!

The "paddle shifters" are equipped only on the 335 with steptronic and sport package, as a $100 option (may now be standard). They are not available on the 328.
Even if you could obtain the steering wheel, the shifters would be useless to you. It would take wiring and mechanical connections that I'm sure would be way beyond the DIY realm. My advice is to spend a lot of time surfing through this forum and you'll learn a lot more about your car.

+1, it's only a 100 dollar option IF you have a 335 and gotten the sport package.
another point to consider is that the 328 uses a different automatic transmission than the 335, thus the shifts are not as crsip nor fast as the 335, which sorta defeats the purpose of having paddle shifters Having said that, look at E46fanatics, there's a DIY for retrofitting paddle shifter from the E46 M3 SMG to E46 3ers http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showpos...8&postcount=61 Quote:

thank you for the reply guys..
you guys sure do know more about e92 than me. I had e46 330CI before i leased this car. and i did pg2 rims, hamann kit, coilovers, exhaust, roof spoiler, ssk, sway bars, strut bars, u name it.. i spent at least 20gs on 330CI before i got rid of it.. now i just want to cruise and maybe mod only minor stuff.. like maybe rims but no drop.. and i knew if i got the twin turbo 335 beast, i would start modding again and spend all my money. that is my reason why i went with 328 lease for 3 years. and move up to 6 series in 3 years. |

why would you want pedals on your steering wheel
I would look into trying to retrofit smg paddles..I doubt if it's possible...but let us know what you come up with. If I figure out a way to change my 335i paddles to smg paddles I can sell you mine.

why would you change your 335i paddles to SMG paddles??
you know by changing to SMG paddles doesn't magically give you the SMG transmission, right?

The are a forced option when you get a 335 w/ AT and Sport. Not on the 328

They are much more sturdy and have more of a race feel. And I would also like to figure out a way to have the paddles wired up like the SMG with one as plus and one as minus. Is that okay with you?
