So much for the 4-Year/80k free maintenance: Parkview BMW

I drive a 3-series and went in only for my 2nd service (in the entire vehicle's life) at Parkview BMW. The end of the 4-Year free maintenance ends on March this year (my vehicle had much less than 80k).

Thinking they will change my oil and brake fluid for free, but NO!!! They only perform a simple diagnostic and re-set to have my vehicle come in again in April.

I am not sure if this is just a sneaky SA, a sneaky dealership, or it has become a BMW company wide policy to skimp on the 4-Year maintenance promise.

Thank you BMW Parkview!

That doesn't sound right, you are allowed 1 oil change a year regardless of mileage and can change the brake fluid once every 2 years.

the problem is, the computer on our cars tell the SA what the car needs. so even tho OP hasn't gone to the dealership in the term of the maintenance service, he could of recieved an oil change just 6 months ago. thus, the car is telling the SA it doesn't need service.

i always just go in when my car tells me to, they always do everything. last time i went in to get all my injectors replaced they did a bunch of warranty work that wasn't even due but was coming up soon; brake flush and whatever else needed to be done.

I am going to call the service manager at Parkview and listen to what he will say.

If my care doesn't really need an oil change for another 6 months or 1 year, that's fine. But telling me I have to come back to the dealership in April for a oil change and brake fluid check (co-incidentally after my 4-Year free maintenance warranty just expires in March), sounds really "fishy".

I can't imagine its the SA s job to make these decisions. I'm sure there is a sevice plan that they adhere to. 80,000 km free service was first developed to ensure leased cars were maintained properly. Call and find out.

This is very interesting, when I check the service status on my car it predicts my first oil change to be in 2012. The car was in service in June 2010, so I had expected to take my car in for an oil change by June 2011. Will the dealer refuse to do the oil change because the car does not need it. I had understood that the dealer will conduct 1 oil change per year at no cost.

Thoughts?

Most dealers will do a low mileage oil change every 12 months regardless of distance. Should be able to get a minimum of 4 oil changes under the maintenance program.

these are not included. i've asked!

these two items should outlast the 80,000km maintenance program.

i did teh collant flush at 60k, and planning to do teh pwoewr steering fluid at 100k (but i've been told teh PS fluid is lifetime).

you have to give me the name of your dealership, for the past 3 years and 10 months, my car had only one (1) free maintenance done to my car.

they are now trying to skimp my car on only the second one.

I drive ~7k a year. I have had my car for two years and have had 2 oil changes done for free. That's only 14k which is well below the yearly 20k.

You get an oil change every 1 year regarless of how little you drive.

Sounds like it was not explained to you properly...or you were hearing but not listening... You need to get more information about what is covered and what is not.

There should be a "service and warranty guide" in your portfolio in your glove box if you have had the car from new. Turn to the chapter "BMW Maintenance Program" and it's all explained in english (french if you turn the book upside down-backwards).

Unless you are the SA, I don't think you have the right to say if I am listening or not.

When a vehicle manufacturer advertises free "service and maintenance", the customers expect oil change and oil filter replacement as standard items.

I don't believe anyone on this forum would argue otherwise.

The fact that I have to take my car in again (to perform something that can be done once) costs me time and money.

i was also told the PS fluid is lifetime but check it for level, my PS fluid was low at 70,000 and needed a top up.

My dealer, BMW store Burrard always changed engine oil if I wanted to.
They even changed engine oil after just 3000km.
I went there for brake lamp malfuction fix, not for engine oil.
But they changed it anyways.
So, I guess it depends on the SA..

My SA also said to not trust the date in the car and that its always set to be like 1.5-2years from last reset. She said to look at the mileage and if its low, still come in for the oil change at the 1 year mark.

T&C pulled that on me as well. Parkview & Maranello are my best experiences for service.
