320D ED Lead Time

Sorry for all the questions!

How long are people waiting?

I've got a test drive over the weekend in the above car. Hope it's big enough!

depends if you want something standard, or it will be a factory order I guess.

There would be a few options so I imagine it would be a factory order.

The other car on my list is a Superb (completely different car I know!) and these have a 5 month lead time!

im suprised at the lead time on a superb, you hardly see any of them about, mind you for good reason. its an interesting choices, from totally no badge appeal to loads of badge appeal. Think you would be looking at 3 months min lead time.

The long lead time is the same on all VAG cars as they can't make enough of the diesel engines.

Regarding the badge, that's not an issue for me. The level of equipment, refinement and space far out weighs any perceived badge appeal.

The days of a 4 cylinder BMW being special are long gone - look at how many you see. A 6 cylinder 3 series still has aspiration appeal to me though.

AFAIK part of the reason for long lead times for VAG cars is their sales push in Asia and the far East. I couldn't believe the lead time quoted for a golf the other day. Having said that, Audi were quoting 6months lead time back in August 07.

It does make you wonder when the car companies are complaining because sales are down cause of the economy etc that the lead times are so ridiculously long. Surely these companies are starting to loose trade because of the long lead time.

They will with me, and alot of lease companies. Most people on leases I know, start to look 2-3 before renewal, if you are then going to be told sorry 6 months, hold onto your current car, alot will look elesewhere.
