Album Art Resolution

so ive read anecdotes on various apple forums that album art can be stored at higher resolution on the latest iphones and ipod (touch's) verus what can be stored on the ipod classics.

i also see on this forum some folks are using USB sticks in the armrest or even USB hard disks.

so the question is which device enables you to crank up the album art resolution in i-drive?

the album art display from my ipod classic is ok (its a 2year old ipod) but its not what you'd call sharp...and some album covers look a bit fuzzy. i think pretty much all album art on my ipod is 300x300 downloaded mostly from itunes itself or for those *cough* imported albums its from amazon. i think itunes adjusts the resolution for the device as well so i guess when connected to a higher res screen like the i-drive in navigation pro you just expose any low quality images.

interested to hear what others have tried or even see some pics for comparison. my wife has just bought an iphone4 so i am tempted to see what the looks like when connected.

iPod classic vs iPod touch

I tried comparing the cover art on the iDrive display for my two year old iPod classic versus my one month old iPod touch for the same song in my library...the iPod classic image is crap compared to the high resolution image displayed when using the iPod touch...

I hope there is a way to change the resolution stored with the songs on the iPod classic - although, Apply likely wants you to buy new hardware...

The new iDrive wide screen (with navigation) has native resolution of 1280x480. Just roughly measuring the split screen large album art display size : screen dimension gives me an estimate of maximum album art display resolution of about 320x320.

I am using a USB drive, and my embedded cover art dimensions are either 300x300 or 600x600. Both look equally sharp on the iDrive screen.

You will need a newer iPod for "high"resolution album art in your split screen. My iPod classic showed only crappy images, but my new iPod Touch shows excellent high resolution album art in the split screen section. The iPod classic cannot store the high resolution images.

I went from an Ipod classic, which as others have reported, had less than steller resolution. Recently upgraded to the 6th generation 16GB Nano (man is that thing small!).....and the album art is much improved.

I remember the first computer I bought had 30 MEG of memory and thought that was a lot! We have definatley come a long way.

Amazon... right...

*cough*

Showing my age here but my first laptop had an option to upgrade the ram from 1mb to 5mb for £600.... HDD was 10 or 12mb IIRC.
