Try kijiji and Craigslist, you can find good deals on used wheel/tires from private sellers...

I've heard good things about Simply Tire. But honestly Tire Rack won't take long. A few days for me.

I was having the same questions back in November (after the first snow fall), and reading the old threads, most people recommend Tires23 (in Mississauga) or SimplyTire (in Toronto).

I also looked at TireRack, but the tires I want (Conti ExtremeWinterContact) was going to take 3 weeks for TR to deliver them. So I thought I'll just go with the local guys to save time.

Well, it ended up taking 3 weeks for Tires23 to get my order in (and SimplyTire didn't even carry Conti's), so going local did not end up saving me any time.

Of course, if you don't have a particular brand/size in mind, I'm sure you can get them faster locally. However, I'm sure there'll be a rush this weekend given the storm we got tonight.

wow, i just got back from davisville to sheppard
it took me more than 30minutes..

so so tiring, my car was sliding like hell..
i drive a 328i coupe sports..

I need snow tires, but will they help at times like tonight???
I went to Tire Depot and asked,

they offered 16" steel rim + some "brand" tire (made by continental apparently) for about $895 i think.

How's the price? going 16s a good idea?

Tire rack mounts for free. With cad on par tr makes a lot of sense. It takes about 3 days for them to ship.

craigslist and kijiji are great places. if you want a store, Costco sells Blizzak the cheapest around but I don't necessarily like these tires for Toronto driving (especially with say a 335). Steelcase tires has a great selection and they are very competitive priced - they come highly recommended and sell a ton of tires/rims.

Curious, why don't you like Blizzaks for TO? I'm on the west coast, so wonder if Blizzaks would be OK out here..

I got a great deal from Bramalea Tire for 17" Dunlop Winter Sport 3D mounted/balanced on replica rims. The tires were ready within a few hours. I think the tires were $185 each, which was wwwwaaayyy less than I found them for anywhere else in Canada (but still more than Tirerack though).

I asked the dealer about buying my own winter tires and he told me that I may run into warranty claim issues should something happen to the car related to the wheels (ie. bearings) if I install non BMW approved winter tires.

This sounds like a load of crap but considering I just took delivery of the car last week, I don't want to take any risks.

For Toronto weather conditions Blizzak's are over-rated and over priced - there are much better (price and performance) options available. I'm not saying Blizzak isn't a good snow tire but not the best for the price and location (toronto).

Winter tire is a must for RWD and you can find out what BMW is selling then go find them yourself much cheaper then dealer. I got my Dunlop 3D wintersport Runflat from http://steelcasetires.ca/ check with Dave he will hook you up :-).

Considering 16" Bridgestone Blizzak WS70 for my E90. Currently have style 156 rims with the Blizzak LM25 which suck because they're quite worn. Shipped from TR is about $700 which seems pretty decent to me.

Any comments for the Dunlop SP 3D compared to the WS70? I understand the Dunlops are performance tires and I'm looking for better winter performance. There isn't a ton of snow in my area, but sometimes we'll get 6-12 inches and/or slush conditions. Wonder if the Dunlops would be good enough or better safe than sorry with the Blizzaks.

Thanks.

Some people don't like Bridgestones/Michelins because they ware a lot quicker...though I'm not sure about that...I'm just going what people say...
