Headlight Washers
I had to replace a part in one of the headlight washers, and when I finished I tried to test the system while the car was still in the shop. I could not get the headlight washers to activate, although the windshield washer worked OK. But later the same day on the highway they seemed to work fine, but of course I wasn't outside the car to observe the operation.
Normally the headlight washer is activated by the windshield washer, but this doesn't work all the time, and I cant figure out what causes the cars computer to decide whether or not to wash the headlights. Is there a sensor that activates the headlight washing sequence? Can anyone tell me how to activate the headlight washers manually. |

Straight from the owners manual...
Cleaning windshield and headlamps Pull the lever, arrow 4 Washer fluid is sprayed into the windshield and the wipers are operated for a short time. When the vehicle lighting system is switched on, the headlamps are cleaned at regular and appropiate intervals. Last edited by 2kaccordocoupe; 01-10-2011 at 10:46 AM.. |

Yes, the headlights MUST be switch ON. But even then the headlight washers will only work the first time you pull the wiper stalk inwards. I think I read somehwere here the the headlight washers will only spray washer fluid for one in five washes. All with the headlighst on. So it will wash them the first time... then you have to pull it five more times and it will work ONE more time.

+1 unfortunately I miss mine, I had it on my old 2004 328i coupe and when I trade it in I thought it was on the new 2008 335i coupe, I returned it and told the SA that it was not working, and they worked on it to get it working for two days until the head mechanic read the service book from BMW and it stated that the feature is only on the IX models, we had a good laugh about that.
But the scary thing about that, until I brought in my car they thought it still came with the car, you would think they would have known that.

I thought all BMWs with the cold weather package have washer jets. Does your car have heated seats and the pass thru ski sack - all part of the cold weather pack? Dackel |

No headlight washers on 08 non-xi cars, even with cold weather package. Funny that the service department took two days to figure out that farbmw didn't have it. Makes you wonder.
That is one feature I miss most from my 04 330i. Should be standard with cold weather package. |
