2007 335i e92 CPO - Am I about right?

Test drove a space grey, coral red, grey poplar trim, 6MT yesterday. Sport, premium, ipod, no nav. Gorgeous car. Not a spot on it, not even any rock chips.

35k miles on the clock, CPO, Sept. '07 build, which is nice for longer warranty. It was originally a lease car, but the orig. owner bought out the lease, which gives me some confidence. HPFP was replaced once ~25k miles according to service records. I wish the orig. owner would have changed oil at 7500 miles, but since it's CPO, not too terribly concerned about the impact of the recommended intervals.

Dealer has it listed at 29.9k. I figure the car would be worth ~25-26k non-CPO. I built in the CPO cost and offered dealer 27.5k off the bat. Dealer of course rejected the offer, as they will always reject the first offer, but I know I am not an expert negotiator, so I simply made the offer I was willing to pay, handed him my business card, told them to call me if they change their mind.

I assume everyone here thinks I should stand firm at 27.5k? There are not many for sale in the midwest right now, but doesn't mean I am going to overpay.

Funny, I just bought an 07 335i, 36k mi with sport and heated seats. I got them down to 27.8k. I'm in NY and the prices always tend to be on the higher side, so you should be able to get them in that range you're looking for. I would say, have some back up (search the area for others) and have money ready to put down. It's winter now and I would think it would be tough for the to try to move a sport coupe so that should be more ammo for you. I miss my 135i, but the space of the 3 is much better for my size. Good luck and hope that helps.

Well, the dealer never called me back. Sticking to my guns though. If it's still on the lot in a couple of weeks, I'll go back in. The longer I wait to buy the right car, the more cash I have to put down as long as I don't blow it on stuff for my house (I'd like to have the car completely paid off this year anyway).

I had been looking for a 330i, but after getting so close to the coupe in person, I am completely in love with the e92 and can't even look at an e90.

The asking price is just far too high. There are newer cars with fewer miles to be had for the same price.

Be patient OP. The Galves trade-in (wholesale) on that car is:

$20,900 Base Price for a 2007 E92 335i
- $600 without auto transmission
+ $700 Sport Package
+ $725 mileage adjustment for 35k miles (base mileage is 41k)
= $ 21,725 Trade-In / Wholesale Value
+ $ 1,400 for minor dealer reconditioning (new tires, brake pads, etc.) IF APPLICABLE.
= $23,125 "Market Ready" wholesale value.
+ $1,500 for the remaining CPO warranty (estimate)
+ a fair mark-up for dealer overhead, and profit.

What constitutes a "fair mark-up" is completely up to you, but I think it should be about 5-10% for dealer overhead & profit on a 4-year-old CPO car (assuming the car has new tires, brake pads, a clean title and an intact warranty).

Your initial offer of $27,500 was far too generous IMO. Your offer left you no room for further price negotiations with the dealer (unless you're willing to overpay). Your offer is a reasonable final sale price, and now that it's on the table I wouldn’t budge off that number (the dealer knows it's a reasonable offer too).

Good luck!
