Grey Dakota Leather...owner experiences?

Hi Everyone,

I getting ready to place my order on a 335 Coupe. I've choosen Monaco Blue for the exterior and am leaning toawards the grey dakota leather.

Can you guys/gals give me some owner experiences. I've always gone with black to minimize care issues.

On the grey interior...with the exception of the floor mats, does the rest of the interior hold up to dirt well or am I going to be cleaning it regularly.

The car will not be my daily driver and will probably see about 8k miles a year mostly in the 3 most favorable seasons. I don;t have kids YET...but will most likely have them during the ownership of this ride.

TIA

George

I have the gray and use my car the same way. At 6 months and 4k+ miles I have not had any issues. I think the gray will look great with the blue. Also, to break up all the gray I bought dark gray mats to give it a two tone look. What is you trim choice?

monaco with grey has always been the best combo IMHO, however if you're worrying about dirt and aging well black is a safe bet

I agree that black is the safer bet if you don't want to spend the time to take care of the interior. 90%+ car owners usually just dust and vacuum their interiors once in awhile, that will not cut it when it comes to keeping the interior looking new. If you spend a little time to keep the leather cleaned & conditioned it will look great for years!

I have grey dakota leather, for 18 months now, and have zero issues. It still looks new and the car is my daily driver.

My brothers 328 was 6 years old w/97K miles on it before he sold it. Tan leather looked like new aside from the normal wrinkles that leather gets after time. He probably did the leather every 6 months.
I have seen the same cars with no effort at all and they were horrible. Dried, stained, deep cracks etc. Conditioning puts oils back into the leather promoting longer life. Remember, its a dead animal.

I had gray leather on my E36 and after a year or so the seats looked pretty crappy. The cracks show up more on the lighter colors.
I have Monaco and Black now and would not have gone with any other combo.

I'm leaning towards grey poplar. It think is a classy yet sporty transiton between the light grey lower dash and the black upper dash.

Gray leather - 14 months (17K miles), daily driver.

Maintenance: leather clean/conditioning (zaino) every 4 months & interior vaccumming every 6-8 weeks.

Result: Recently, first time rider in my car asked, "When did you buy new car ?" !!!

Exactly what I thought. I also like how the trim pops off the gray console.

Okay...I'm sold! That is an awesome combo. I even like the dark grey floor mats....they add a nice contrast that compliments the grey poplar

Thanks!!!!

it contrasts great on my x5 which has a topaz exterior, after 2 years of owning it and the car being used (2003) the leather is still in excellent shape

Did you consider saddle? I am biased, but I think it looks good with blue. Another benefit of saddle is you get black carpets and mats, which are easy to keep clean.

No offense to grey dakota owners, but it looks a bit flat to me, it just doesn't "pop" the way it should.

I ordered that exact same combo: Monaco, Grey leather and Grey Poplar trim. I haven't taken delivery yet but based on all the combos I saw both here and at various dealers, I really thought it was the best combo for the exterior I wanted (Monaco).

Black is easier to take care of, but black interiors are so overdone and make the car so dark (not to mention hot). My friend's Avalon has grey leather and he's had it for 2 years now and it looks brand new. And I know he doesn't put the care into it that most others do.

No offense taken, I like that its a bit flat, that allows the trim and other accent pieces to pop instead. I would love to go two tone on the seats and door panels like the Jade interior that is offered outside the states, just too much $ to do.

I did consider Saddle, but I too would rather the trim to stand out. Although I like the color of the saddle leather its just not uniform enough for my taste and looks like the seats and door trim were an after thought...again just my opinoin and taste.

I've seen shots of Monaco Blue with Saddle and the 2 colors together are very nice. I just think BMW could've done a better job integrating the saddle into the rest of the interior.

I have a triple grey E92 (space Gray, Gray dakota and Gray poplar) and obviously love this combo (almost got montego blue instead of space gray).

I have attached 2 photos that help you see the nice transition Gray poplar creates from dark dash to light gray leather, and how the door looks like.

Also, no issues here after 1 month and 2000 miles. I'm going Zaino the leather couple of times a year to keep it moist and clean...

Gray leather 15-mths to the day with 23,400 mi on the clock and no problems. Of course, I'm usually the only one in the car, so the driver's seat would be in the poorest condition.
