Exclamation Seatbelt Chime & iDrive Knob

Today while I was out and about I got in my car, started it and put my seatbelt on and the chime stayed on . . . and never went off!

My dealership was on my way back to the office so I thought I'd stop in and see if it might be something they could fix quickly, (yeah, right).

While I was there, I thought I'd have them look into another intermittent issue I have with my iDrive knob, which does not respond to a pull back (like to select Entertainment) instantly like it does when pushing it forward, sideways or down.

They ended up keeping my car and gave me a loaner, an '06 325i with 7500 miles.

When I left, my car was still parked in the service drive with the chime going. And no, the key was not left in, no door was open, or the trunk, nothing.

Anyway, they called me a few hours later and said the chime has stopped and they couldn't find any faults. Also they couldn't reproduce the iDrive problem I described. They did say they would keep it overnight and continue to try to reproduce the problems.

My question is, has anyone else had a problem with the iDrive knob not working, but only in one direction? I’m sure it’s not a software issue as it only does this in one direction.

Or what about the chime staying on no matter what you do, anyone experience that?

I’m curious, as I don't recall reading about either of those two issues here.

Yeah I get the same problem with the iDrive when I first start up the car. It seems if I got for the electronics section (down) to quickly , it will just stay highlighted and not open up. After I am driving for a while though, everything works fine!

Yea only at start up because the computer's going through all its setup phases I guess. For example, I'd have it highlighted but in the meantime there's a noticeable lag because my BT phone is pairing. So after a few seconds everything settles down and it's fine. If I shutdown the car then start it again shortly, the lag seems less noticeable than when I first get into my car after an extended time has elapsed.

I also read recently here that the iDrive setup seems to be quicker if you unlock the car ahead of time (ie. while you're walking towards it) versus if you wait till you get to it, unlock it, then start everything up. I haven't really tried this since I have CA and don't reach for my key fob anyway.
