Inside line test of the X3

mixed bag review…I wonder if they played with the dynamic handling system at all…the way they describe the driving dynamics remind me of how the X3 felt in normal mode…especially the lag they talk about before the X3 takes off.

Top marks went to the new X3 when up against the Freelander, Q5 and XC60 in last week's issue of Auto Express.

Hmm…just looked at the reported times and noticed that Inside Line shows two sets of times, one with the trac (I'm assuming traction control) on. The times are the same but the mph in the 1/4 is over 3 mph faster with trac on. That is a pretty big difference, and would indicate a pretty big HP difference. Any ideas?

also, the test X3 looks to be loaded up with most options and still weighed in 40 pounds less than BMW's stated weight - 4222 vs 4184

They mentioned in the article the car was heat soaked after so many runs, that's what slowed it down when they tested it without the trac on.

I saw that, but you would think if that is the case - it would have posted a slower time in the quarter instead of an identical time with a slower trap speed.

The test is drivel, the comments in the stats box are much more informative.

Have you folk in the US never seen the hazard light 'thing' under hard braking??? Fitted to many cars these days it activates the hazards for you if braking hard so the people behind can (hopefully) see early enough and don't rear end you.
