FK coilover top strut nut question
I'm getting some low speed noise on uneven road between 5-20 mph. I just checked my end links and they are both tight. I did tighten while it was on ramps so there is load on them.
1. Assuming you don't have any noise with your coilover, does your top strut nut (21mm) have any threads sticking out? Mine looks flushed but no threads sticking out. 2. Did you use any of the OEM washers? There's a flat one and there's one that's concave. Are these required for install? Thanks! |

I have ground control camber plates/washer on so im not sure if that makes a difference. There isnt any thread sticking up above the nut, ill say its about 2mm below from flush with the nut. Im on fk konisports and i do have some noise hitting small uneven road surface. Other than that its been fine.

Check the strut if its tight. I hear like knock sounds when I roll 5mph in uneven roads and yes I have alot screw threads sticking out.

To clear up the second question, would I need to re-use items #1, #2, #5, #6, and #7?
For AST coilovers, those items should be re-used according to Former Boosted IS. #7 looks like a flat washer but I can't really tell. Last edited by blisstik; 01-03-2011 at 04:21 PM.. |

Those large black pieces go on top of the strut like this pic:
The washers go on top of the top hat: The washer isn't flat (convex/concave) so make sure you have it the right way (look at the picture for reference). You can see from the DIY here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=336355 Also, I have a lot of threads on the bolts on the top of my struts. I was having road noise also, so I ended up unscrewing the strut bars in the engine bay and then screwing down the bolt some more, while the car was on the ground, not jacks. I'm running Koni FSD/Prokits so I'm not sure if its the same for your coils...

I found the problem. Part #1 above had busted bearings due to not installing the concave washer and the black spacer (photos above). I've been using the shiny FK washer all along.
Bought new top hats and clunking is now gone =D |

how can you tell if the bearing in #1 is busted? My installer didnt install the concave washer and black spacer when he installed my coilovers. After a few months I got these noise. I have put the washer and spacer on but still getting noise when i turn the wheel max to either direction.
