Thumbs down Elite Direct Rainham...

Last week I used Elite Direct in Rainham because they specialise in wheels and tyres. Being a BMW I wanted to take the X5 to a place where it would be jacked up properly etc (I should check the jacking points now shouldn't I ? )

Really annoyed with them after having all new tyres fitted. Its not the first time they have messed something up for me either. I recall some other forum members previously complaining about other incidents e.g. acerboo I think, when he had new tyres fitted.

I ditched the run flats on Christmas eve. Am I the first e70 owner here to ditch these? It had Dunlop Sport Maxx RFT fitted from the factory. I thought they were really good for run flats and wishing now I had stayed with them. Had Vredestein Sessanta SUV tyres fitted. They have same load ratings, but a higher speed rating (Y). Will update once they've been driven on. I was happy until then!

Downside is that the wheel fitter gouged a spoke on one of the wheels, but as I didn't watch him to do the work I couldn't prove it. Their response was that it looked like kerbing and that the fitter was their most careful. Yes, I could see how careful he was by the way he ragged the car away from the forecourt and back, literally launching it! Their response to the presence of fresh flakes of metal on the tyre bead and gouge (where the damage was), was that its normal when fitting tyres

I know its a X5 with large wheels, but I have never, ever, kerbed the wheels on it and believe it or not, they were actually unmarked.

Having my father with me didn't help because I had promised to take him somewhere and we really had to get going. It's a small mark but annoying nonetheless because all wheels were unmarked. It's going to get fixed in the new year though (might get all four done in a different colour). To add insult to injury, I rolled over and agreed to have a wheel refurbished at cost! Now I've discovered another two wheels are marked, I believe the wheels where over inflated considerably and that they're possibly leaking air!

In the past they have fitted incorrect tyres to another car. Aligned my sisters car, with the steering rack/rods collapsing a few miles down the road (luckily the car was still under warranty and rectified by the dealers with fuss).

I seldom complaint and I know a lot of people use them happily. This is just a warning to say use them at your own risk. Make sure you have your wheels inspected before and after.

/facepalm

Regarding the kerbing thing, it's so patently obvious when a mark is fresh. A damaged rim will have the damaged area fill with rubbish and much really fast. A fresh mark sticks out like a sore thumb but because it's clean and the flakes of paint/metal are so obvious.

Funny thing is, hasn't Tony used them in the past and had good experiences?

Fnding a place that will take care of your motor is a nightmare, you can't trust anyone!!

You should go to Wheels in Motion in Chesham they have a touch less tyre fitting machine.

I had four tyres fitted to brand new wheels and as you can imagine I was very eagle eyed. Not a mark and cost £76 for all four tyres balanced and fitted.

I was well impressed with Event Tyres - they spent two hours fitting my winter tyres on my 19's, not a mark on any wheel. Best prices too!

Event are a "back of the van" outfit right?

They come to you, do the change/fitting using a machine in their van and then bugger off right?

Yeah they are, but the van has all the equipment they need, and they can't give you the "you're not insured to stand in our workshop" line when you want to watch your wheels being handled, as they are doing it on your property. The guy I had was from Reading and used to work in a tyre place, and is proud of his reputation for not damaging wheels. I had one new wheel to fit due to pothole damage, and he came up with the suggestion to put the new wheel on the driver's side to prevent it being in the "gutter", something I hadn't thought of at the time.

Mobile tyre fitting seems to be getting more popular, I was a bit dubious at first, but after struggling to find winter tyres in stock, I liked the "pay nothing until your tyres are fitted" policy of event tyres, rather than paying up front not knowing when the tyres are going to turn up. Other than that, Bracknell Tyres seem to have a good reputation for looking after wheels. When they are nearly £500 a piece, they need to be looked after!!!

Used event also in the past, very professional as keen prices! Had to have the rears rebalanced though as had a vibration through the car after at 'motorway cruising speed '

Used Event recently to change my 19's. Really good efficient service with attention to detail and no damage to my rims. Cracking price too! Would definitely recommend.

Yes on both counts.

But it means you can sit inside with a coffee while the fitter does his stuff outside. I've used them several times now; without exception, the fitters are 'alloy friendly' and the little extras really make a difference.

Agree with this, they fitted Conti 5P's on my 19 inch wheels and did a perfect job. They called ahead to give an exact arrival time at my home too.

Recommended.

Mike.

Another recommendation for Event from me. The guy even fitted new rubber buffers to his machine just to make sure he didn't mark the wheels. I felt a bit sorry for him having to fight with the Bridgestone RFTs to remove them, but he did a great job.

I used Elite Rainham a couple of weeks ago, they managed to fit an assymmetric tyre on the wrong way round ie the word 'inside' was on the outside of the tyre. Luckily I checked before I left so it was rectified but no apology. I also found a chip in the alloy by the valve which could not have been caused by kerbing, they were not interested said it could not have been done by them.
I would not got back to them ever again.

when it happened to me i thought just maybe the damage was already there (just trying to persuade myself?) but after reading this thread i agree i would not use them again.
