My second E9X purchase in one month - 335xi sedan

As some of you know, a few weeks ago, I ordered my E92 335 with Black dakota, aluminum trim, sport package, premium package, nav, paddles, bluetooth, comfort access, pdc, usb, active steering. I initially ordered the car in Titanium Silver, but have since changed it to Space Grey after having seen the two colours side by side.

Well, I just placed a second 3 series order today. This one is for my wife, who was initially set on purchasing an X5. With all the running around she does with the kids and parking in tight spots, she realized that the X5 would be too large and cumbersome for her. Also, the mileage on the X5 is CRAP. She's always been fond of the E90 styling and recently decided that this would be her vehicle. She's eager to get rid of her 2001 Toyota Sienna. So here's what we ordered:

E90 335xi
Monaco Blue on Beige Leather
Burl Walnut Trim
Sport Package (including style 162 wheels)
Premium Package
Navigation/idrive
Steptronic (apparently paddles are not available on the 335xi until further notice - not a big deal at all for my wife)
Comfort Access
PDC
USB
Bluetooth
Sunshades

Interesting, we will probably receive the E90 at the end of April or early May at the latest. My coupe, however, will be delivered in mid to late June due to the popularity of the vehicle. I'm probably May production.

Anyway, we're pleased to be joining the global crowd of 3 series lovers. Hope we've made the right decision.

You didn't consider the redesigned X3 or E91 wagon instead of the X5?

X3 design IMHO still has room for improvement. I think it'll happen in second generation, just as with X5. Still a great vehicle, no doubt. Wife just preferred E90 and I fell in love with the E92.

Also, checked safety ratings for E90 and looks to be a very safe car to carry my wife and 2 daughters. Safe, style, power, handling, exhileration. The car has a lot going for it. Keeping my fingers crossed on the reliability, however.

Curious - why does wifey need a 335xi. For shuttling the kids around, does she need a turbo/70 add'l hp?

Congrats. I've ordered 335Xi as well. Did you get a production number for your order? My dealer told me same timeframe - late March/early April for delivery but production number won't be available until late this month.

She definitely doesn't need, but she likes. She also works part time and gets to drive a bit more than the school drill. Furthermore, this is going to be our family sedan that we will take everywhere. To be honest, there were other factors that moved us toward the 335 such as 1. chrome trim, 2. chrome grill, 3. lumbar support in seats, 4. available comfort access, 5. double separated exhaust. (I know, most of this is simple vanity). These aren't huge factors, but for us, when we're spending this kind of money, we wanted the added touches. Plus, once we fully featured that 328xi, we got to prices that were close to 335xi anyway.

Not that 328xi is not a great car. I know a lot of people give the thumbs up to the twin turbo and don't pay as much respect to the 328. Personally, I thought that 328 was fantastic - essentially same car with the exception of the above items and the engine. I really don't think you could go wrong with either.

P.S. I even asked my CA if we could buy the chrome trim/grille separately and add it to the 328xi. He investigated and found that the total cost of this would be about Cdn$1500. Not too bad. BUT, service department mechanics were somewhat leery of the window trim. Worried that they may damage the factory seal in the process. So we decided against this.

Congrats! Just to echo the question already asked, curious why you didn't consider the E91 as a 328xi?

Welcome!

Hi man,

This is an excellent choice, your wife will be the star of your town (at least the district...). My wife just got her blue 325xi Touring with black leather a few days ago, while I also have a saphire black 335i Coupe with jade grey leather. Besides these two beautiful cars we still have the Z4 3.0i. Actually I don't understand why most people in the US don't get the Navi pro, here in Switzerland almost every newer BMW does have it. As well the i-drive is not so complicated as many people say....probably they also have problem to draw money from an ATM.....

As you can see we are very pround of our little bimmer family (but realy familiy comes first...).

Greetings from Switzerland!

Totally my wife's choice, not that I disapprove. I think she realized that we just didn't need a larger vehicle. The only reason that she was considering the X5 was to be able to sit 'higher off the ground' just as with the minivan she got used to. But this desire quickly faded, especially as she began to experience the amazing handling of the E90. She's never liked wagons and she's wanted to drive a sports sedan prior to turning 40. The E90 had the styling and performance characterstics that induced the 'wow' factor.

I find the E90 335 to be a fine family sedan (3 boys) for around town use, but for long trips and parties the Honda Odyssey is the way to go. The new X5 is looking better and better, but I would wait for a diesel version.

Even though it's an xi, I would definitely recommend getting performance snow tires for winter.

Ditch that minivan! Way to go. I bet she will be much happier.

Why should she have to drive a station wagon or SUV? She got what she wanted. The X3 is FUGLY (no larger than the E90) and the wagon doesn't have the TTs.
