Can the Peake R5 code reader register a new battery?

Hi, Can the R5-FCX-3-16 Code Scan and Reset Tool be used to register a new battery?

If yes, what is the procedure? If no, I guess only the dealer has the tool?

No. The Bav Tech tool can but it's significantly more expensive and doesn't seem to offer anything more than peake besides the battery reg

No, as stated above just the BT tool can reset it or your dealer. You're better off goin to some authorized bmw shop (body shop or repair shop) and see if they will do it for less than the dealer.

Great. Thanks guys!

I called the dealer and the OEM replacement is 750 CCA. About $176.

If I want to upgrade to the AGM at 950 CCA it's $250 plus an hour labour for the flash to register the battery, I would imagine about 5-600 out the door.

If I get the exact same OEM BMW battery and don't register it, taking big risks yeah?

No one knows for sure if the bav tool can register a battery completely. There are more options in ISTA than what the bt tool provides.

I am on vacation and have a battery waiting at my house to be installed. I'll report back if I can register my Braille AGM battery successfully. I'm kinda thinking not.

If you replace with the same type, amperage, and other specs i think the bav tool will work but in my case i need to register an AGM. I don't think the bt tool has the option to choose which type to register.

My guess is that it just logs the mileage and resets the "learned" charging program.

My 06 325i does not call for the black AGM battery at 950 cca. I just upgraded to it because I wanted the extra insurance if I'm parked at the train station listening to the radio for half an hour. My car takes the white 750 cca battery which I am very confident had dropped off to below 600 cca on the bench test because of my style of driving, cold starts, short trips and lots of parked, idle routines that run down the battery. In these cars, a dead battery is a nightmare.

I think in my case, I could have taken the chance and just replaced the battery with the exact same spec and it might have been O.K. but I would not have had peace of mind.

If I had a required AGM car, I wouldn't DARE try to do it without registering it properly using the BMW tool because the price to pay would be far too great. pooch your NaV/idrive or if for some reason, the battery just wasn't the same, I read on here somewhere, the terminals exploded on a guy after a little while. YIKES!

In this case, I'll suck it up and get it done, the larger battery should last at least 3-5 years. Kinda sucks though that they make this difficult when batteries are $99 at walmart. Glad I came here and did my homework first!!!!
