Question to all built-in sirius users

So it's my understanding that if you order the sirius radio option you get 1yr of free subscription.

My question is, how is that done? does you radio just work when you pick up the car or you actually get to open an account on sirius.com under your name with 1yr free?

The reason why I am asking is that if you have 1 subscription you can add another device for $7/mo, and I was hoping that I can add a radio to my other car for that much since I already have 1 subscription.

any input is appreciated.

It is not activated when you pick up the car. You must call Sirius yourself or go to sirius.com to activate it, and you will create your own account with them in so doing.

One thing to consider, too, is that you can apply the credit for the year of service to a lifetime subscription. That's what I did, and it ended up costing me about $375 for a lifetime (which is to say that I can transfer it up to three subsequent radios for $75 each) of satellite radio. YOU CAN ONLY OPT FOR THIS IF YOU SIGN UP FOR LIFETIME SERVICE WHEN YOU ACTIVATE. I think you have to call them (vs. doing it online) if you want to go that route.

Thanks, that's what I wanted to hear

$375 for lifetime is a steal! I heard there some restrictions though. You can't keep transferring the service to new receivers over and over.

Yep, you'd need to register/set up an account with Sirius. From the radio ID number they will see that you have 1 year credit. They will also try to upsell you on more service years. I paid $150 for an additional 2 years (3 years total). I wasn't sure about opting for a lifetime service at the time, though if you're a Sirius fan, I guess its a no-brainer. After you have setup the account I don't see a problem in adding on additional radio units as part of a family plan.

My dealer set up the one year deal while the paperwork was being done...so I didn't get the option of the lifetime deal...been paying monthly for the last six months.

I already had a Sirius account that I was paying $12.99/mo for.

Sirius allowed me to make the BMW receiver the primary receiver so that I only pay 6.99 for my other unit.

My year is up so now I'll have to pay the full amount.

I think you still can, give them a call and see what they say.

I have Sirius in both cars. My CA did all the activation for me, so I didn't have to bother with it, but when I bought the E91 I requested that the Sirius subscription for that be added to my existing account - which it was. Now that I have renewed both, I get the 2nd unit discount for the radio in the E91. Sirius is pretty good about working with you to lessen your cost.

I'm curious how it will go with the new car this spring. It will be just prior to renewing my current primary radio and I'll get another free year...

Slightly off topic but on the subject of Sirius....for those interested, the Playboy channel (formerly a premium channel) is now a free add on. You can activate it online or by the customer rep. They need to send the unit a reactivation code so I'd do it by phone. I decided to add on last night (just so that I can have all the channels), it only took a couple of minutes.

It was a $2.99 p/m premium channel when I signed up. Only recently found out its free. I can't say much about the channel, I just wanted to have all the channels available so I did the reactivation. Btw, we get new programming tomorrow

Lifetime Included

Well, I just got my ride, activted Sirius, and it came with a LIFETIME subscription - that rocks! I expected 1 yr.
That is a $499 deal, and that makes the Sirius option a no brain deal.

Anyone else get that lucky?

it used to cost money on XM, playboy was never charged for on sirius

you do have to call to have it turned on, but was never charged for (and if it was I can't imagine who would pay)

on the lifetime sub, you can transfer it 3 times that's how they limit it
