New here and thanks

Just a quick post to introduce myself and to say thanks for all the support on here. I traded my E60 545i (on cam, fast, forgiving, and boring) and E36 M3 for this "practical" Swiss army knife of a car, the E90 335i. I hope to contribute to the wealth of info here, but for now every question that has come up has been a quick search away so CHEERS and thanks for that.

Mods in the werks:

DP + JB3 + DCI + Fix
19" 111 Miro + Hankook / Michelin Alpin Snows on factory + 20MM spacers rear
Eibach + BMW perf Shocks + 14MM rear sway bar
MTech Rear bumper + M3 Style front + LCI hood + Shadowline
UUC SSK + M3 Shift knob + M3 Alcantara Wheel + Alcantara wheel bezel

Mods on wish list:

Inter-cooler
Limited slip diff

Here are a couple of the departed M3 and 545i. You can also see the 325ci daily driver for the wife with mtech and h&r race suspension in the background...[IMG][IMG][/IMG][/IMG]

It had 113k and I kind of gave it away for $7900 with the hard top. That is less than the mods I'm putting on the 335i. The are definitely a value used and really cheap to own. The triple black with 5 speed is classic.

BTW, wife and I talked the father in law into getting a 335d. He was looking at the VW td stuff. Will be fun to surprise him with a tune once he gets it.

$7,900 WITH THE HARD TOP????? oh man, i cannot believe that those cars with the hardtop looked better than the coupes. Beautiful timeless design.

335d is VERY nice. If they bring a 535d it would be even nicer as the engine is better suited to touring because its soo quiet and so powerful at the same time. Besides for an older guy (assuming) the 5 series would have more comfort than a 3 series. The VW tdi aint bad at all....

check this thread for a stock 335d and the same one with a tune...

Wow, the d sounds like fun time + good economy. I am doing the same commute that I did with the 545i and I am seeing 4mpg less with the 335i stock. On the highway the 545i did 29+ and this car get about 26 on the same road. I can't wait to drive one to feel the hand from the sky torque those numbers suggest. It would be interesting to run a 335i with the tall 335d gear ratios. Bet the numbers would be better since torque favors long gears. Kind of wonder if the 6 speed in the 335i was the work of marketers, not engineers.

You are so dead on about the hard top. That M3 looked better with it on and I would have left it there all the time if not for the rubber squeaking I couldn't resolve. And it was always in the way. That is how I justify selling another car I'll kick myself for selling come summer.

It honestly is. I easily see 32-34 mpg and no sacrifice in power. It can easily get over the EPA rated 36mpg. Hand from the sky is exactly how it feels, a nice grumble rumble noise, barely any noise, it's truly amazing. The 6spd steptronics in the i's and d's are both very close in ratio however the final drive is where they differ. 2.81 vs 3.41. At 80 mph in 6th gear the d is running at a cool 2000 rpm. Pulling off the car usually starts in second gear.

RIP E36 lol
