The struggle!
I'm selling my 335i, which has been a great car, but I want something else.
The grown-up in me says get the new X3 or a Ford Edge, but the kid in me wants the Z4M Coupe. I would lease the X3/Edge, but I would probably buy the Z4MC. There are times I just want something simple & smooth, but then there are so many times I want something fast & distinctive. choices to make.... |

Unless you have kids, don't get an SUV.

it seems to me the 335i would be the compromise between these two, but i wouldnt get an suv unless i was a soccer mom. The new edges are nice tho

My thoughts on the X3/Edge are that it will be comfortable & I can throw the dog in the back without having to drag out the crate.
I was thinking the 335 would be the best of both worlds, and it would have been, if I could have gotten the wagon... |

Your pride keeps you from buying a wagon now because it's a 328?

My wife drives a Ford Edge, and it's very, very nice. I don't have any experience driving an X3, but the Ford Edge is easily the best car/SUV I've driven in the snow ... and that's including AWD bimmers, Quattro, Jeeps, etc...

The z4m coupe is one car I really like.
It's not blistering fast in a straight line but turns very well, engine growl is great. Go-cart feel all over. Uses a little bit more gas than a 335. You can only take one passenger, unless you'd like to cram a toddler in the "trunk". It's superb in snow as well since you've got the LSD, the ride height is a minus in these conditions though. To me, they look great and although they're small, don't look like a complete mommycar. As a whole, if you live in the city OR have a second car I'd buy the Z4 in a hearbeat if those are your choices. Are you sure you are ready to be a grown up? |

Get the x5 35d.
Really good compromise on space, handling, and fuel economy. I just got one this past weekend for my wife and it's a great car. The torque from the diesel is also really nice. Not too far off from the 335i IMO. |

if you're a "spirited driver", you'll regret an SUV after 1 year at most.
This was my progression - M3 > Jeep GC 5.7 > X5 4.4 > 335 Got the Jeep to have a more relaxing ride. Turns out I was wearing out the shoulders off the SUV tires. Didn't get the SRT due to the 12 MPG (although the 5.7 wasn't much better). Thought switching to a BMW would solve the problem with missing the driver's experience so I got the X5. Kept for 18 months, with the last 6 looking for a fun car to change to. Got the 335. Better ride than an M3, a whole lot better handling than an SUV. I made sure the 335 had split fold rears... |

Wouldn't think you would need 4 wheel drive in Dallas! How about a 335i 4 door with fold down rear seats. The dog can hoop in from the back door. A Z4 M Coupe would be a bit cramped with a large dog in the back, it if even fit back there.

I am happy with the 3 series (see sig LOL) Z4's are alot of fun too! Friend has the new Edge Sport. He loves it. His progression was the opposite of mine: 3 series to SUV versus SUV to 3 series

My X5 with Adaptive Drive is as fun to drive as my 335 was... I do miss having the Procede tuning in my 335, but that's is the only thing I miss. Love all the legroom and all the rest of the space as well, get to stretch out, could even take a nice nap in the back with the seats down, not that I have, but there is enough room for it... Yeah the N55 isn't as tunable now as the N54, but it's still a fun drive everyday...
