Can hardly believe a 335d can drive on this

This was one of the side roads I was driving on this morning and I had to drive up a steep incline to join the main road. There was no flashing lights from the traction control, DTC button was not touched, just gentle throttle and it just powered through the snow

I took my car to an uphill hairpin turn in my parents road that is just covered in ice. i could have negotiated it but decided to stop and try a hill start. Fail. The car slid backwards but it was an extreme test.

Just took a less direct route and with some spin still managed it. I had maybe 10 different attempts at it and by the end It wasn't really a problem. You just knew folk were watching though thinking why the fuck is he going back around once he was up.

That aside the car really is vastly improved on the winters and they only have about 60 miles on them so I will return and try the same once they have a couple of hundred on them. Don't think the weather is going to change for a bit.

I'm disappointed - what winters were they that failed to get you moving up the hill?

Bridgestone Blizzak. Hard compacted snow/ice on a real incline and like I said a hairpin turn. Couldn't think of a harder test and I could negotiate it with some manouvering. That was why I went up and down it several times. Just trying to find the limitations of what I have. I should emphasise that I wouldn't consider entering this street without them and they have passed a normal hill start test on a straight stretch. Also the control I had coming down the tight hairpin wouldn't have been possible without them.

Is yours a manual or auto?

I tried a hill start on a steep hill on compacted snow and ice. The creep from the auto box got me moving without any issues and i just drove off.

I reckon a manual would take a lot lighter touch / skill to get it moving without slip.

The biggest test in mine that have faced so far was a turning up a quiet steep side road that was covered in snow & was hard to make out even the kerbs.

I took one look & thought "no way, not even with winter tyres on" but you just know your gonna have to give it a go.

My reasoning was that it was going to get half way, get stuck & then slide back down with little or now control so the best way to attempt it was in reverse cos if I got stuck half way up coming down should be easier facing the right way.

Started to reverse up the hill & then noticed two chaps that had been clearing their drives both decided to stop & have a laugh at the bloke in the BM attempt to get up this steep hill. Reverse engaged & the car just reversed up the hill as though there was no snow. I was amazed but I think they were even more amazed.

Felt a bit silly reversing but the safety of the car is more important than my pride.

I actually think the auto box makes progress even easier.

I bet there are a few people out there wondering how some of us are managing to make progress whilst others are sliding all over the place & I wonder how many will buy a BM next cos they think they are brilliant in the snow.

Like another thread on this forum "What on earth" - i bet 95% of people don't know winter tyres exist. Let alone what they are capable of.

I've had some funny looks doing similar things up hills so effortlessly.

What's even better is you did this in reverse and with these tyres being directional they aren't at their best in snow going backwards

And i agree about the auto box, i'm sure it helps as it very gently gets the car moving where my right foot would have totally failed in prevent wheel slip.

Not really, just some clutch control to get the car rolling with little or no throttle.

Law of physics still apply. There definitely are some who won't hear a word against them.

They are good but not infallible.
