To me it's insane how this is worth 1/3 of what it was new. If I had the money, I wouldn't even think about it.

If only we got the wagon...that would be badass.

Car looks good, color's not my cup of tea but deal is nice, gl

m5 for the same price as a used 335i... why not go for the naturally aspirated v10 rather than the HPFP inline 6

I'm giving you the same advice as before.

The M5 is an exotic car with exotic maintenance bills to go along with it. The E60 M5’s complex high-tech electronic systems and S85B50 engine will be EXTREMELY expensive to maintain out of warranty.

As you know, the 2006 E60 M5's price approached $90,000 (with a few options) new, but you can pick one up 4 years later for around $30,000. There’s a good reason for that rapid depreciation.

There are few (if any) indy shops that are capable of working on an E60 M5, so you'll be stuck taking it a BMW dealer for maintenance. Before you buy, make sure you know and understand what the average maintenance and inspection costs of an M5 are. Be prepared for 4-figure routine maintenance bills, $500 tires, etc.

Good luck with your decision...

Mr. Candido as always your advice is always appreciated. I definitely listened to reason when we talked about the lease buyout, but I think this is a great deal. I'm planning on getting a after market warranty. Right now i'm on deciding between Zurich and AA. As far as tires go it's about the same price as for with the 335xi I have now. I'm feeling really good about this car.

zurich are usually pretty good with aftermarket warranties
my friend has one on his e39 m5

but this price is a good deal for a moderately low mile car

If I was in the market for another car now, I'd definitely consider one of these

Replace Plugs and belts = $800

E36 M5 clutch = $4000

M cars are expensive to maintain and do not suffer short cuts or cheap outs. Would make a great Second Car

Good luck with the car OP, it looks like it's in really good condition. They're great cars. Mtek also brought up a good point that you might want to consider. M-cars are great extra/weekend/track cars. I’d never buy an M-car as my primary daily driver though (my 2004 M3 only has 27k miles on it). That said, lots of people do daily drive their M-Cars though. IMO, if you’re daily driving an M-car in rush-hour traffic, you’re simply wasting money on performance you can’t use (and don’t need).

This is a great point. Other than that it is a good deal , but maintenance will rape you. I'm pretty sure the warranty doesn't cover service , which will be pricey especially since it will be a DD.

It's a secondary car. My daily is my 2000 Mustang GT ( love that car.) If it will be our weekend car. As far as maintenace goes I will take it as it comes. Most things will be done DIY. Thanks to the DIY section. If all goes through will definitely post up some purchase pics.

The only thing that bothers my about that car is the SMG transmission. I understand they're difficult to drive smoothly, especially during normal driving. Other than that it looks like a lot of fun. I like the interior color combo and the options...

Ok so if it's a weekend car I don't see the maintenance getting out of hand. And with the self service it should be fun project.

Does not smg has an auto mode button when it simply becomes an auto?
