Smile Which BMW was your first love?

Hey everyone!

We all had that one BMW which ignited our passion for the brand. Personally, I have to say that I would not be a BMW owner today if it was not for the E38. As a kid, I have always been fascinated by the "James Bond" car. That being said, the other day I drove to Holster, CA to meet a client and I noticed a dark grey '99 E38 740iL for sale. After checking the car out I noticed a few things. The car was in great shape inside and out, paint was in near perfect shape, the exterior trims were not faded to my surprise, leather looked great, steering wheel was not shiny, the wood trim didn't have a single crack in it and it had 18" OEM M-PARs!! It looked like a 3-4 year old car so I decided to buy it even though the "service Engine Soon" light was on. Approximately $5,000 later my E92 335i had a new big brother. After spending an additional $2,600 on engine work and $1,800 on replacing the tail lights (OEM-White), side markers (OEM-White), turn signals (OEM-White), fog lights (OEM), headlight lens' (OEM), color coding the lower bumper trims and side skirts my work was complete. I finally have the "James Bond" car that I have always wanted. After a month or so with the E38 now, I am starting to realize what a refined car it is and I have to say that it feels nicer than my E92. It's more quiet, comfortable, spacious and the VANOS V-8 is a wonderful engine that fits the car's sporty character extremely well. The E38 is not the fastest or sportiest BMW but it has the ability to embody what BMW is all about like no other car that I have ever driven before. The E38 in my opinion, much like the e30, marks the end of an era in BMW's history. A time when BMW meant something special, something faster, something better, something to be proud of. A time when "The Ultimate Driving Machine" was not a slogan but a statement.

Thanks my 2 cents.

It has to be the original M3 for me. I remember seeing this couple with two of them. The girl drove a white one and the guy drove a red one. They always raced around town together. I thought it was awesome!

It has to be '97-'98 E36 ///M3 Sedan for me

8 years ago bought my first BMW,a '98 Estoril Blue/Black,5 speed with 32K miles and sold it 16 months later for a '91 Porsche 964 Turbo with 19,000 miles ( Still got it )

3 years ago bought another '98 Sedan and this time Alpine White/Black,5 speed,10K miles with Active Autowerke's Stage 2 Turbocharged making 400 at the wheels. 2 years later sold it for an '06 E55 with 18,000. (still got it)

Few months ago, wife needed a car and i found her a '98 E36 M3 Sedan Silver/Black,A/T with 24K miles but she wanted something newer so i had to pass. I ended up buying her an '07 530i with pretty much all the options.

Can you tell,i am starting to itch for an E36 Sedan once again. God there's something about that car that i can't stop admiring it.

E36M3 Sedan all the way

My first BMW was my first love. It was a 1972 Malaga Red 2002 which I kept for 11 years. Since then, I've owned an '86 325e (slow) and a 325is (better), an '01 525i (slow) and a 2003 530i small block V8 (much better). Since then, an '07 328xi, '09 328xi sedan and coupe. But none had quite the soul and spirit of my first 2002! Loved that car.

My first BMW was a E46 320d, but my first proper BMW that I loved was a E39 525d Avus Blue Edition...how I miss that car

I might try a E65 730d next.

Ah nothing like a remote controlled 7 series you can drive off a parking garage, or a Z8 that gets split in two at Valentin's caviar factory... Those toys are a little out of my budget. First love was my 2008 e90

I have loved BMW since I was a little kid. I didn't know anyone that had one but when I would see one I couldn't stop staring. If I had to name one that would be my ultimate dream BMW it would be an e60 M5, Alpine White.

For now I am loving my 328i E90 (first BMW) but someday, I will get an M5.
