Making it louder?

Ok so this could be one of the stupidest things i say on here so don't laugh!

Put my MVsport rear box on the other day and there wasn't a slight bit of change of sound now mines is a 318D and I know diesel don't make noise from the exhaust much. Thing is I would like a little note coming from the exhaust and wasn't sure as to why the note didn't change with the new box is this because of the cats? As some diesel I have listend to sound rather nice V6 like.

Would a full cat back system do this? Not trying to make it LOUD so I kill my ears just want a slight sporty note any help???????

On a diesel though would it not sound like a farm vehicle i only want a slight sporty note.
