Have any owners of the MT regretted their decision?
After seeing the similar thread based on regretting getting the AT, I was wondering if there are any 335 manual owners that regret their decision and wish they would have went step? Just curious...

No. I probably chose the MT because of the kudos factor and thinking of it as "the enthusiasts choice" [wrong reasons really]. However, having driven autos for years I had forgotten the entertainment and challenge of doing the perfect manual change for the situation. I find it very satisfying. I also like anticipating what gear to be in, something an auto can't do until it can read your mind. Shifter has got noticeably smoother after 4k miles.

I didn't have the choice of the 335, but I certainly don't regret the 6MT.

If you ordered a car, and regret your decision, I feel no sympathy for you. But, if you had to take a care off a lot because of lack of options, or didn't want to wait, then I could see where one would somewhat regret that choice.

Nope, no regrets here... I live in LA and drive in traffic a decent amount of the time... Even if the AT was standard, I'd still opt for the MT...
My first case was an auto that I drove for about 2 years... then I picked up a manual for about 5 years, then an auto for another 1 year (not by choice... temp car that I drove while waiting for the 335, now I'm back to manual... I so glad to be driving stick again... I just like that extra degree of feel and interaction with the car... I feel it gives me more control over the vehicle... My next car will be manual as well =D |

I can only quote my wife. “If we have to get the automatic we might as well get the Volvo.”
This was for a 325, but have no doubts that her view is unchanged. |

No regrets yet in bad DC traffic, but I can't wait for a short shifter kit to be released.
I thought the step was rather boring to test drive, but that's just me. |

I agree. Step = boring. Why bother?

I drive in Maryland traffic, which can be a lot of stop and go. But I love my MT. There is nothing like the satisfaction of perfect shirts and the launching ability of a MT to make me smile. The ability to down shift into a lower gear anticipating a rolling launch is another benefit. Other benefit is that MT, in my experience, can outlast an automatic transmission. And with the Extended Maintenance warranty, clutch replacement is covered. I doubt replacing anything on the AT is covered.

I really never considered the step. It's a fine transmission, and I enjoyed the paddles on the demo cars. It's by far the best auto Ive experienced, with far less torque-converter feel than previous steps. I've never owned anything but sticks, and that's probably why I went manual. Its too integral to the driving experience for me at this point, even though the performance and econemy is very similar with this new step. The step feels slower to me, but I stress 'feels', as it's mostly subjective when you look at the stats. Plus, my gf can't drive a stick . My previous M car bothered me in stop-and-go traffic, as the clutch was a good bit heavier, but the 335i clutch is much lighter and dosent get as tiresome in traffic.

I love my 6MT. But sometimes in heavy traffic an auto would be nice. Real sports cars have sticks

Not in a hundred years of the saying. Always driven MT unless no choice. MT get you more interacted and makes you feel like if you are in control of the car not as in automatic, changes gear even if you don't want it to.

Nope. MT until I lose my left leg!
Edit: This applies to all cars I have owned. Danny
