2007 328xi - Plastic Key and Empty Fob in Glove Box?
This thread mentions a plastic key and an empty fob in the glove box.
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5412 I came across it when I was looking for the proper protocol when leaving the car in a Valet lot. When I picked up my 328xi from the dealer last month, all I got was the 2 standard fobs, nothing else. I checked the glove box, and there is no empty fob in there, nor is there a holder for the empty fob shown in post # 52. Could someone please tell me if this still holds true for the 2007 models. Thanks.

Been discussed before at length. FOr MY07s onwards BMW got cheap and took those amenities out of the mix. You can still order these items from your dealership. Not sure what the cost is...

Triton-
I specifically asked, and never received a valet key. Just the two 'regular' fobs.

Take out the metal key from the fob, lock the trunk with the switch in the glove box, then lock the glove box. Keep the metal key and then give the fob to the valet. This is how you are supposed to use it.
The plastic key that came with the 06 models are not valet keys. They are emergency keys. They can still unlock/lock the glove box and trunk. |

The valet procedure is to remove the metal inner key as described above and give the FOB to the valet. This allows you to lock the trunk and glove box, and they cannot be unlocked without the metal key. Anyone seen the price yet for adding the plastic key on '07s?

Seriously, we need to have a sticky addressing the "valet key" topic.

I just got the key and fob/adapter thingie today. I'll futz with them later in the week so I can understand how this all works. I'm going to NY for the weekend, and there's no place where you can self-park. On a somewhat related note, I used my physical key in the trunk yesterday. Well, I tried. It didn't seem to do anything. I then used it to both lock and unlock the driver's door. When I got back into the car, all key-related settings were gone: iDrive configurations, radio presets (FM + satellite), seat + mirrors, climate control. Anybody have any idea what I might have done wrong...or (more importantly) to restore what was there? (In case you're wondering, it was the same physical key that I've been using all along via comfort access. The other master was at home.)
