2006 325i - Refused to Crank Over
I got in my 325i this morning, inserted the key, hit the start button and it wouldn't crank over. Instead, the dashboard lit up (including the A/C controls, headlight indicators etc). I pulled the key, re-inserted and again wouldn't turn over. Tried turning on the headlights and the battery seems fully charged. After about five tries it suddenly cranked over, started and appears all is normal. I did a search here and didn't find anything related. Anyone else hear of any issues like this?

I'd let it go, but if it happens again, then take it to a dealer...

How cold can it be in Tampa?
And I am sure the BMW was made for cold weather. Are you sure the steering wheel was not locked, and somehow unlocked on the 5th try...or something like that? |

Temp was 47 ... cold for Tampa but not cold and the car is garaged overnight. I called the dealer, they said to bring it in for diagnostics.

Just an update - the battery in the key fob, which is supposed to charge with each use, was almost dead.

Yes had that happen often. I figured out it was because I wasnt pressing down the brake pedal hard enough, or releasing to soon. Go figure. Two days ago I got a new warning light pop up. It was a symbol of a steering wheel and a lock. I couldn't turn the car over after three tries. I then removed the fob, waited about 15 seconds, and reinserted and it turned over.

try holding down the brake..and releasing a second or two after it has started...if you haven't noticed..the brakes can be little stiff at first start...
