Heated Seats
Hi All,
I have a E91 330d M Sport with black leather, I have a query for anyone in the know. Do the seats have the heated elements in them as standard ? I ask beacuse I dont have the heated seat switches but on the cold mornings we have had recently I have noticed the seat getting warm for about 5 minutes and then switching off. If the elements are there then could I just get the control panel with the heated buttons on and plug it in? surely the controls electronics must all be there as the seat is heating up. Thanks for your help |

They may be standard here in Canada because I have them and didn't order them.

In the UK they are not standard.
I do not know if the seats have the element in them as standard but it could be cheaper to make them all that way. But if they are connected up then sounds like a manufacturing error perhaps. Sounds strange either way. |

I doubt the elements are there as standard. The aftermarket kit is shown in the official Accessories catalogue. Price (in France) €284, or €377 if you have the memory seats. It's not an install I would like to tackle myself, however...

They heat up quick though. Literally in seconds. Faster than any of my old Volvos. Which is great since this morning it is 5 degrees F and my wife's little bum needs to be kept warm
Probably not an easy task for self-installation if you plan to go that route.

In my old Land Rover, the heating elements were in all the seats, but the heated option added the switchgear. I added the heated seats later at minimal cost. I think the question is whether BMW (which owned Land Rover at the time) has a similar scheme.
+1 on the speed and quality of the seat heaters. Nice attention to back heating too --not just a barbecued butt

+1. I'm a bit of a heated-seat junky and the e90 is the first car I've had where the side bolsters are also heated to warm your kidney

I think the heated seats are set to cycle between hot and not so hot. or off. so maybe after 5 minutes the seats they turn off?

What I think may be happening is just the auto climate control at work, heated air coming out at different levels.

i found this post interesting, because i felt the same sensation. No cold package, but in cold mornings, i can feel the back warming up. Very odd...might have to investigate this further...

Before I had heated seats in my car, on cold mornings I used to have to think of something that made me really embarassed. Then I would feel all warm and flush...
Luckly, I have a lot of material to work with.

you find the seat heating up because of your body heat dissipating, it travels from a relatively warmer environment (your body) to the relatively colder environment (the seat)

Yeah, but only for the lower half. Getting really embarrased makes me warm all over.
