Installing JVT (eBay) Headers on Z4M (S54)

For the cost I figured why not, if I have any issues I will just replace them with SuperSprint stepped headers

Nice write up. Is this at all relevant for those of us with an M54?

It might be similar......part numbers may be different and the process/tweaks required may be slightly different. I don't own an M54 car so it would be hard for me to speak to that.

If you look above the brake light blinker installation, you'll see the LaminX installed- you can't even tell it's there, it has held up well over the past few years. I got the THICK 40 mil film and was somewhat apprehensive about installing it but it only took about 20 minutes and looks perfect, really did not have to use the heat gun except for one area that did not want to stick.

Yes, Supercharger is about it......and I would like to swap out the aluminum dash/console trim for carbon leather when I win the lottery ;-)

Thanks, They seem to be working great so far, no noise or leaks and no apparent rubbing anywhere (I was back under the car today installing OE gaskets on the header to mid-pipe).......but my ESS tune not so much. I sent them a question tonight as to why I am getting P420/P430 codes for inefficient cats since that was supposed to be turned off, we'll see what they say.

In the mean time I have cleared the codes to see if they come back.

The carbon wrap looks great I think and a lot cheaper. I was thinking also about your sub install and wondering if U think its worth it. The sound quality is crap in our cars IMO. I have been waiting forever too see what BSW will come up with if anything, thaxs keep up the great work, wished I lived closer

Sub install was worth it for me, although you still have the sub-par signal from the sub-par head......with Nav I'm stuck. It fixed the low bass issue, but now I have a gap where I need more mid bass. I occasionally turn the new sub off to remind myself it could be worse

If you don't have Nav, you don't have DSP so it may be fine......it is a lot easier to replace the head/speakers.

had you considered relocating the sensors to the Euro locations at the secondary cats?

Any initial impressions on the headers, butt dyno or otherwise?

DSP is OK with the base radio, because you can just rip everything out.....with Nav I would have a useless screen

I chose this header because it is a copy of the proven SuperSprint design, and for $200 I didn't think there was a lot to lose. Once I get the code issue resolved I think I will be happy, saving of over $1k with a little added work.

I had but I really don't want to do that, one of the reasons I got the software was to turn off the post cat O2s and avoid some of that hassle.

The car definitely feels stronger on my seat dyno and actually reduces the heat under the hood with those two large OE cookers gone

ESS never got mine turned off either. They claimed I damaged the 0'2s in install but no way did that happen. I called bullshit but they wouldnt retune. I dont think they know how to turn them off. I also believe NO tuning company can turn them off so no blame to ESS. But when you shell out $800 for a tune PRIMARILY to turn off sensors and they say it CAN be done, well that's just wrong. IMHO it didnt affect performance but it is embarrasing to have a nice car with a Check Engine light on. It drove me nuts. It would go off and on every couple hundred miles. This is why until somone can prove to me they can turn them off the 08 will remain with stock headers. I miss having them so dont get me wrong there, loved the sound and power upgrade.
