MY e92 335i ZF Auto GEAR STUCK!!!!!

This morning, I started the car, put it in reverse and took it out of the garage. It was about 40F outside. Took it to the road and noticed weird thing. The car was auto shifting to, may be, the 3rd gear and NOT going past that!!! It reached up to 50mph with RPM going past 4000 and beyond. I was driving it like an old caddy on the road with speed limit upto 65mph - what a shame. I tried pressing paddle-shifters, moving the shifter to "DS" mode, moving up/down (-/+) but it wasn't coming out of "D" and stuck there! I changed my route immediately, and contacted BMW service from the NAV. They turned the car off and took it for a little spin - didn't find the issue

!! Yet, they gave me a loaner (nice 06 325 convertable) and took to the workshop. Just now, the SA called me and said the gearbox computer may not be communicating with the car computer. Although it happend only once, they would like to keep the car until Monday and have foreman look at it. They may have to file it as "PUMA" with the BMW in NJ and see what happens. If they fail to reproduce the issue, I may need to take it back and get back to them if it happens again. Oh and did I mention it just has just about 2100 miles on the ODO?

Question: Anyone else experienced similar issue with 335i coupe/sedan???? Please help!

my dad had a 1991 525i when i was a youngling ... also a ZF auto box ... but i remember the box one day just going into 3rd gear and staying there ... well it turned out that the gearbox was faulty and the electronics of the car selected 3rd as a safety thing. (on my e46 M3 when the airflow meter went faulty the car was rev limited to 4000rpm as a safety precaution). The gearbox was replaced on the 525... your car is new ... maybe it just the electronics acting up and giving a false warning. Just tell them to "clear the faults" on the system.
