Retrofit aFe 135i Axleback exhaust to 128i?
Hey guys, I am sure many have seen or heard of many of the 135i exhausts, but for us 128ers, we are pretty much with only the BPE as our only option (unless you have a quad defuser, there is the remus). My question is this, is it possible to retrofit the aFe exhaust to the 128i, without much difficulty, or has someone done it already. I have talked with a contact, and we have researched and found that the valence and hook points are the same and that there is about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch difference in diameter from the stock to the aFe exhaust (the aFe being larger) and that this makes it "possible." what I am worried about is: 1. will the dealer give me trouble from the retrofit (since it will involve welding/ possible other modification) 2. The cost to retrofit the exhaust. I have read that magnaflow is supposed to be coming out with a 128i exhaust, but that is still in the future and, I would prefer something that has already been reviewed.
Essentially here are my choices: 1. Pick up the aFe exhaust (super cheap btw, in the $400 range) and have it retrofitted (reviewed as having better sound) 2. Pick up the BPE for $630 and have it installed (not having to worry about any warranty issues) Any help would be much appreciated, and as always TIA |

clear choice seems to be the PE.
your aFe after install and retro fits is going to come to close to the 600 range. might ass well throw in a some extra bucks, get the better exhaust with warrenty. sound is going to sound pretty much same, i dont see it being so great to be worth no warrenty and 100 bucks less. id go with the BPE.

2 Cents worth?? Am on same page as well. I just got the 128i Msport and was thinking of Magnaflow...but I am going with the HPE. Cost when said and done [as was about same as your quote] is going to be in same ballpark, and have already heard the 128i equipped with the HPE. It was great at idle and had that nice deep rumble going on up revs. Not overly aggressive for my neighborhood as the Stebro is on our Z4. So it sounded great...that is what put over to it...AND that if I throw code and the dash starts to light up like runway 010 at O'Hare, its all covered. NOT so with any aftermarket. The install is about an hour...a good tech less. My dealer will let me get back there and make sure it sticks out where I want it, LOL...and my STech is a great detail guy. I am very fortunate on this issue at a dealer that is great. They are all Bimmerheads there. I am going for it [HPE is waiting for me upon my return to states]--good luck on your choice.

The magnaflow exhaust is already out and can be yours for about 500 from autoanything.

In southern california they offer to ship it to customer(shipping is extra obviously), so pm me, and maybe you can get the same deal, or maybe we can work something out where I could get it shipped out to you, depending on shipping rates obviously. But on another note: Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!! |
