285s on a 8.5 inch rim (style 189)?
Hey guys,
I have a 335 with engine mods and I am searching for the best tire/size to assist with traction issues during acceleration (the stock runflats are horrible). Anyway, the tire that I would like is the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3. Given that they have been discontinued by Goodear, certain sizes are hard to come by. I can't find any 255 35 18s, however 285 35 18s are available...and so I'm curious whether anyone else has experience with this size on a 189? Thanks.

I'd say 285 is too wide for an 8.5.

285s are too wide to properly fit on a 8.5 inch rim.
For example: I run 275's on a 10" rim.

The widest tire that is recommended on a 8.5" wheel is a 255. For a 285, you need at least a 9.5" wide wheel.

No fender rolling in my case. OEM port suspension (no drop) with 37 rear offset. No issues .

Why would you even want those Goodyear tires? They aren't traction leaders in either their price catagory or their class. You'll get more traction from a better 255mm tire than a 285mm Goodyear.
Using simplified engieering formulas for limiting friction and comparison test results from tirerack's online test data we find that the 255mm Pirelli PZero has 6.1% more traction than the 285mm Goodyear F1 DS-G3. The Goodyear F1 DS-G3 is $293 and the PZeo is $305. The Pirelli option utterly slays the Goodyear option even if it's smaller.
