New to E90post with a used E90 335i....
Hey fellas, just got a used E90 335i and I've been excited to get it since it's my first BMW... Anyway, I've also been reading some stories about the HPFP and such nasteries... Are people regretting their purchases now? Im almost ready to buy some go fast goodies but my car already has 52K miles and I'm worried that if I put a JB3 on it it'll take a dump on me or only last a few thousand more miles. Are the only reliability issues really just the HPFP?

I just rolled over 60K and the only trouble I've had was with the SAT radio. Replaced under warranty. NO other problems at all.

I'm afraid of heroin but I guess I should just do it anyway.
It's risk/reward (or cost/benefit) OP. It will put more strain on your engine than without, obviously, and all things equal I'd expect a motor with a piggy back to cause more problems than one without. These are finicky motors, however, and many have run tunes no problems, and others have lemoned completely stock cars. Consider everything out there, including flashes. No one can predict your cars future reliability or how it will "take" to the tunes, and while I'm not telling you not to do it (as this depends on how much you value the increase in hp/tq), just be prepared to pay to play. |

Dude, screw it just get a tune and enjoy the car.
As far as reliability issues go hpfp isn't the only problem. Turbos, wastegates, injectors, coils...etc.

Lolz, thanks guys, I was kinda expecting some 'use search bro!', in which my response would be... I really gotta burn up 5 posts tho and I don't really wanna hijack someone elses thread... Anyway, I had an 03 SRT-4 and that was pretty reliable, was my first new car and it was among the first few cars with an outstanding warranty (which I took full advantage of with snapped half-shafts cuz I was putting out a little more power....) and I didn't have any probs, then I had a 300whp Civic hatch, so many probs but it was just for fun mostly and I didn't really care if it didn't start some days, lol. So with the BMW being my daily and fun car I kinda want the reliability.... But the power is worth it to me....I hope... I just made the purchase of the JB3 combo with the DCI and CANtool and USB cable and also bought a catch can... I'm excited even more!!

No regrets here, but I only tuned for a few weeks, made me too nervous. Stock speed is good enough for me and needing to use more throttle and RPMs lets me enjoy my exhaust more
