has anyone removed the e92 lower front mesh?
has anyone done this? i just tried it but i had no success. i saw a post on how to remove the e90 ones. they said to just pull on the mesh and it will come out. that was not the case for the e92. the bumper has clips the slide into slots on the mesh. i was able to push the mesh towards the car to unsnap them but couldn't get it out from behind the bumper. do you need to remove the bumper to get them out? any help would be much appreciated. i want to paint them black or buy some 328 black mesh. thanks.

Hey Chris,
Can't help you with the removal since I don't have my E92 yet, but I think you would be able to find an E92 328i owner that would love to swap their black mesh for yours. No need to paint yours or buy the black ones if you could pull off a switch.

I removed my center mesh by pushing it in as you described. You can bend/twist it enought to get it out of the hole. Tape up the inside edges of the bumper so you do scratch it on the way out.
I didn't take out the left or right so I'm not sure if the same would be true for those. Good luck. |

i went through the fender well to try and get out the side pieces. bmw really did a good job at making this a major pita to remove. there is so much extra plastic unseen plastic around the mesh that you can't just pull it out. to make it more difficult, the mesh is clipped to the bumper, and to the ducts that flow air into the wheel well. if you can jack the car up and shine some light in there i am sure you can see how to remove the air duct so you can get the mesh out. for me, it just wasn't worth it. the damn mesh is staying silver! haha.

I got my mesh out but I had to jack up the car. I just removed the plastic shroud underneath the car then popped the mesh out (it has a ton of clips though, so as you mention without light/room it'd be a major pain).

Glad to hear it's put in so well. I would be concerned if it was too easy to remove.

Hey Chris; when you get the shroud off you need to pull the duct away from the bumper a bit and create an opening big enough to unclip the mesh then pull it through. I could have unclipped it and pushed it out but I didn't want to scratch the paint, so I pulled it down through the opening. It was sort of a pain but on my car at least I didn't need to remove the ducts.

Bah, update on mine - I finally got around to removing them fully and painting; problem is I broke one of the tabs. Boooo... the side mesh is in really, really well (as you know). I am going to wait to put my spring wheels on and just do it when the car is on a lift. Pain in the butt, looks like crap with my black grilles.

Sucks to hear it's such a PITA. I was also hoping to swap mine out for black since my E93 is black, but sounds like it's not worth the trouble without a lift.

my center mesh was damaged by a copper pipe, I removed the mesh and installed a new one, took like an hour.
I ordered a new one from BMW. locate where the clip are from the new mesh, with a L allen wrench which i taped up to prevent scratches, unclip the clips using the wrench and pushing it inward. taped up the area and swapped in the new mesh and using the L wrench to pull the mesh at the clip points until it clip into place.
