Has anyone been able to play music directly from the iPhone 4?

I have a F11 that was built in October this year (not sure which week, but it was week 40 at the earliest).

When I plug the iPhone 4 into the USB socket using the usual white cable it comes with, some of the phone functions freezes up, and the car doesn't recognize the phone.

I was told by the dealer that I needed a Y cable at a cost fo £40. When using this cable the car reports that the phone is not compatible.

I know the iPhone 4 cradle isn't available yet, but there must surely be a way to play music stored on the phone?

Do you have option 6FL 'USB audio interface' in your vehicle? It's not standard on UK 520d SE for example.

Perhaps others can advise...

Yes, I do have the USB audio interface. That's what I plugged the iPhone into.

Harvest is correct. Return the Y cable and use the white cable that came with your iPhone. The cable is likely the cause of your problem.

Thanks Harvest and kscarrol.

My wife tried the white cable with her phone and it didn't work. I'll try it with my own phone.

What do you do once the phone is plugged in? Do you need to go to a particular iDrive menu?

Also, does the white cable charge the phone?

I recently had a 750Li demo and we were able to play music from my iphone 4 via bluetooth. With the new combox upgrades, the f10 should have the same ability.

Iphone integration

Works perfectly with my iPhone 4 - seamless integration; album art, playlists etc. all work.

You need to select CD/DVD then external devices you should see your iPhone with the USB symbol. Select that and you will see the usual iPhone category criteria.

Some very poor photos attached

It will be under CD/Multimedia then under external devices. Your iPhone will show up with the name you gave it...

And you can also play music through Bluetooth Streaming.
Your iPhone 4 does not need to be plugged in at all!
Forget about the USB/cables....

Yes, I get the same with my iPhone 3GS. I think the car is behaving like a Bluetooth headset and the phone doesn't send album art or track titles over Bluetooth

@Harvest: Does this work with just the standard bluetooth in the 520 or does it require one of the other options?

Did anyone get this to work with iPhone 4 and F11? I just got my 520d F11 from my dealer and I did all the steps above. I get the option to choose the BMW or iPhone but there is no sound when choosing the BMW.

I bought a cable and connected the iPhone. It worked with poor audio quality. However, by doing this it seemed like I activated the aux input and the bluetooth audio now works as a result. With good audio quality.

iPhone4 Cradle

I am expecting my F10 (with professional media package as one of the options), in the next 2 weeks.
I'm just wondering if the iphone4 cradle is available yet, as I prefer the idea of click 'n play to messing about with white wires etc?
